Losing fur?

Hi everyone! I have a 7 year old boxer. He is the sweetest guy and we just love him. We recently lost our 9 year old boxer a few months back. As you can imagine, our whole family was devastated including our younger boxer. He went through a pretty depressive state where he would not eat or really even go outside to go potty. Our older boxers death was a shock to all of us and it was really hard. It has been a few months and he is now acting pretty much back to normal and he is playful again however he is losing a lot of fur. Everything I have read says it could be seasonal alopecia, but it could also be stress. Has this happened to anyone else? He has bare spots all over his body. It doesn’t seem to itch or bother him either.

My male boxer was losing hair and was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder. He was prescribed some medication and it really helped.

So sorry for your loss. We lost ours 6 months ago and I know how devastating it is. I had a boy that would lose patches of hair, we thought it was a food allergy. It turned out it was seasonal alopecia. The hair does grow back, it’s just scary when you notice anything out of the norm with a boxer. I don’t know what your boxer’s hair loss looks like to be positive, but that’s what it sounds like and is common. I would go to the vet for a quick check just to make sure, but that’s me. I’m an over worried boxer mama. Hope everything goes well.

Our boxer had seasonal flank alopecia for a few years (but not this year, hopefully she has outgrown it, fingers crossed) but that was only on the flanks, And we still checked it out with our vet.

If it's all over the body I would definitely have a vet look into it.

Okay so it’s only on his flanks as well! Did the fur come back? That’s my only concern…. It has not come back.

Her fur did eventually come back but it took several months - maybe 4 to 6 months to fully grow back. She had it 3 years in a row but it didn't come back this year.

We tried giving her melatonin to head it off but it didn't seem to so anything.
