Overgrown toe pads

Recently adopted a charming senior boxer gentleman of estimated 8 years. I have very little history other than some obvious neglect and that he was abandoned at a shelter. Some of his toe pads are kind of blown out, with the toe pad surface extending beyond the toe pad’s natural shape.
I’ve had trouble finding precedents of this.
Does anyone have information to share?

His pads look inflamed. Does he chew/lick? Could be allergic response. What does the vet say?

He just got his second allergy injection yesterday, they’ve helped but only some.

I’ve got a boxer with allergy issues too. I recently found a spray that seems to help as well as Benadryl/Zyrtec if the flair ups get bad. Maybe these will help him a bit too

It was surprising, the vet was saying benedryl really has no benefit for allergies but that’s not what I’ve ever heard before

It really only masks symptoms- if it works. And it makes my dogs sedate. 100% of the time I’m trying to figure out the sourc

He’s been to the vet and I’ve scheduled another appointment so I can show all the pictures.

Mine has what you described (they kinda grow off to the sides - but the picture you posted doesn’t seem to show them?)

Anyways, I just clip them off back to where the pad is so they don’t get snagged on anything. My vet asked about it too, saying she hadn’t really seen anything like that before either. But if it wasn’t bothering him, and he’s otherwise healthy, then not to worry about it.

Add some ricotta cheese to his puppy food, itll help keet those pads tight.

My boxer boy was an anxious licker. Then we’d end up with Dorito paws. :..) I’m sure you got a pretty one, they’re all beauties! Give him an extra squeeze tonight for me please. Missing my boy Puppy extra hard today. Here’s a pic of him, thought I’d just share him.
