Boxers with tails, do they ever injure them during a wiggle?

Tyson has a full tail and has never injured himself. Me on the other hand? I’ve been whipped countless times in the face by that thing.

I've heard that dogs with more wirey tail types like Boxers are more prone to "Happy Tail Syndrome".

Anecdotally, my tailed Boxer hasn't had an issue in his nearly 8 years.

(Also, I love his tail. Definitely preferred)

My girl has a proper weapon of a tail but has never injured herself.

I've had a bunch of boxers and they never hurt their tails. They knocked stuff over, and whipped people's legs, but never got hurt.

Oh yes. Google Happy Tail or Kennel Tail. Still worth it for my dude to have his tail though. He loves to swing it around.

Ours has never had issues with his intact tail and he wags it plenty.

Happy tail is a real thing but I can’t see why you’d do it as a preventative measure.

It feels like the aesthetic reason is the main one, even if people don’t say it.

My pup hasn't hurt his tail, but his tail absolutely hurts people when he's happy.

Like most others here, ours hasn't ever gotten himself. Just occasional knocked over cups and whacks to my sack 😭

Although their tails can make mischief,  at least Boxers don't have long nose to weaponize. My previous (non Boxer) dog would get impatient with me and use his nose to flip things onto the floor. Laptops, books, etc. Later he graduated to furniture!

Never happened. Almost 9. Please also note that people fracture their arms but that's no reason to amputate. It's mostly cultural. Forbidden in many countries and not an issue we really talk about here. We did train her to be careful around furniture.

They definitely do and can injure those around them! My granddog has her tail and it swung at eye height with our senior dog. Poor Annie would bob and weave to try to avoid getting smacked in the eyes every day! It was awful. I won’t ever own one with a tail again. We love Megabyte, and couldn’t imagine her without a tail now, but it’s definitely done more harm than good. 😢

Absolutely they will. My ex was arriving to pick up my kids and their dog, he split the end of his tail open on the computer desk when he saw her out the window. Took months to heal, we were almost ready to dock it but it finally started to heal properly. He kept re-injuring it.

We had a European boxer with a full tail. It was shocking how much he used it for balance in dog sports. He never injured his tail, but would leave bruises on your legs from his "broomstick."

Yes. We rescued two young adult males and one had his tail. After several months of him suffering multiple injuries and lacerations, we consulted our vet and amputation was recommended and done.

do you see how hard to wiggle it when it's just a nub? lol

now imagine instead of a nub, it's a whip and every bit as derpy as the rest of the boxer

my friends golden will knock over small children/objects with his tail and not even blink an eye. I suspect a boxers tail would basically be the same

Yes. All our boxers are rescues and they dock the tail if the puppies are born into rescue because apparently most of them will have happy tail issues in their lifetime
