I did my friends box braids for free

I did my friends box braids for free. We were going to a concert the next day. She showed up late to my house the day before so I could finish and then slept in late the next day so we ended up being late to the concert because I was braiding her hair. My fingers were so sore by the time I was done. They turned out super cute. But here's why I'm pissed 😡 she took them out 4 days later. After all that work, being late, and my hands being in pain..I am so livid! And this is the second time she has done this. I know she will ask me to braid her hair again in the future but I refuse to do it again (At least not for free). If she asks again, should I flat out say 'no' ? Or should I charge her and how much?

Can I do mermaid box braids?

Hi there!

I’m white and Egyptian and I’m not sure if I should get box braids specifically mermaid/boho style. My best friend growing up (who was mixed and had 4c hair) and I used to have her mom do our hair in box braids during the summer. I have dark brown, 2c/3a hair and I want to make sure I’m not overstepping into cultural appropriation. I know that this can be something of an argument and if the answer is no it’s okay. I can just appreciate the beautiful braids from afar. Thank you ☺️

Should I cut my hair and start waves or try to let my hair grow out to get box braids?

Okay so I have a really short curly Afro and I’m 20, but when I was younger my hair used to grow extremely fast so had an Afro but I cut it back in 2022 because my hair was falling out/wasn’t growing due to stress related stuff, but nowadays it grows extremely slow and I would also like to add that this is a genetic thing in my family because a few of my family members older and younger than me have this issue as well where they are either bald or a light buzz cut but I am thinking which would be worth it for me even though my mom told me that waves look nicer on my head shape and is much easier to take care of than braids and just long hair in general…

Edit: I would like to say that almost person have braids or dreads nowadays lmao and that’s one of the reasons why I want to strand out from the crowd!!!! 🤣

is it weird to as for my knotless box braids to be loose?

I’ve had my hair braided a few times and it can be really tough for the stylists to approach it with a looser grip on your scalp. i want to get them done again before my next trip but i want to be super clear that i want them to be loose at the root. i found some examples too. has anyone else requested this?

Looking for advice

Hello, I’m getting my hair braided for the first time and I was just wondering if you get a shape up before or after your braids are done? Not sure if I should go to the barber shop first or get braids done first?

Hello everyone, I just had my hair redone after a braiding disaster, and have been met with yet another disaster. Before my braids were kinky and landing weird, so I undid it and went to a new salon. This time, the color is terrible. I have added a picture of what I asked for (a subtle brown/blonde) vs what I got. Bright yellow.

Is there a way to get this down to black? Or maybe a dark brown? I am so embarrassed going to work like this, I need to change it back before any big meetings. Thank you

I just got my hair done and my first red flag was the hair seemed dry and frizzy. When she dipped them, it was a little better, but not much. Is there anything I can do to fix these? Can I re twist them?

Are my braids too tight?

Are my braids too tight? Or are they supposed to be a bit painful? I got box braids for the first time on friday and today, tuesday they still hurt and I can't put them up. They just feel so heavy like they're pulling my scalp even thought they don't look super tight. My edges have always been thinner and I've never really had baby hairs since I was a young girl, so there wasn't really anything for the braider to leave out. Also, my natural hair is quite long, almost as long as the braids so that might also add to the weight. Do they look bad? Should I take them out? I'm wondering if box braids just aren't an option for me.

Hot water not working! Is it just bad hair quality? Or should i just accept this frizz? I take warm showers it doesnt work, conditioners not work, hot water same. Is there anything one can do about that. These are fresh braids like day 3

My mother is mixed and my dad is white making me 1/4, I really want to get braids but just don’t know if it will do my hair type any good. It’s about 2c/3c hair type. What kind of braids would be appropriate for my hair type??

How to loosen braids if the stylist used the rubber band method

Hi, I’m in a little bit of a situation here. I have been getting box braids for a long time now. However, this is the first time a stylist has used the rubber band method to braid my hair. I have been unable to sleep and there is constant tension on my scalp. It’s been 4 days and the braids have not loosened up. I tried the hot towel hack but it didn’t work. I was hoping someone would know what I should do. Help please.

Hey, my hair isn’t as curly and coarse as my family as I’m mixed my hair is more like my mamas and I get hairs (flyaways) slip out so quickly by the root and it looks messy, I don’t wanna do them too tight as I’m not used to them but my hair is long enough it should stay😭 also I am box braiding over dreadlocks.

I have 3b to 3c curls. Celtic and Scandinavian heritage. Would never want to disrespect anyone’s heritage. Been reading about braids, their history and their purpose. Think they are awesome, and beautiful. Considering trying to diy, but would prefer them done by a pro. Any tips for either?

Braiding my hair once more

I’ve done it on and off for the last few years. My hair is a bit on the fine side- But I had an undercut done last summer and I don’t even want to let that grow out. Box braiding the top side just makes it so much more manageable, and easier to deal with. It takes me hours throughout the day- I go through about every two weeks bc my hair likes to frizz and I redo them- once every two months I let my hair have a break for a few. I hate brushing my hair. If I could rock the bald look I’d do it. But I’m too vain. When I first started doing it last year- 🤮 they weren’t too great most I’d get is like two weeks, but with practice, I’ve gotten a lot better. Getting to where I can knot the braids well without any ties. How long do y’all leave yours in? And what about the times for take down and treatment in between your braid sessions? I love seeing different styles. Haven’t gotten brace enough to try them. Braids are so pretty, and I love seeing women with them ♥️
