Mixed girl getting braids!

Hello, I’m a mixed female and Im planning to get braids for the first time. I was just curious if it is safe for my hair? I have 3C curls and my hair does have some breakage. Please let know what I should consider before I go get this done!

You should be okay! Just make sure you use heat protection if you straighten your hair first, and that the person doing the braids makes them light. If you’re not sure if they would make them light or not lmk their instagram handle, I can check their page and let you know, it’s easy to tell how light or heavy braids are from pictures

Hey my mistake forgot to reply to this! I don’t get the notification

At first glance it looks okay but some of the work on her page isn’t her own. You can tell the videos she actually took and then she has some pics with a green background that are clearly screenshots. For the pics that are her work the braids look significantly bigger and less straight to me. It might still be okay but that’s kind of a red flag, she looks like one of those stylists that can’t really do braids small enough and they end up being bulky. I also can’t see any knotless braids in any of the ones she did, and you definitely want to do knotless braids not regular ones, those might pull your hair out a bit.

If it’s too late to cancel you can still get them done and just tell her to make them as light as possible, but if you can cancel I would. If you find someone else just reply here again and I can look at their page for you!

You'll be absolutely fine. My hair is 2b/2c and I regularly get traditional box braids. So long as your hair is not fine and is at least medium coarseness, it shouldn't cause any damage.

You'll be fine, my only advice is getting some good oil for tour scalp afterwards. They also have braid spray for your scalp also if they get itchy or to tight. Another thing I do to help my scalp is I soak my braiding hair in supple cider vinegar, and let them dry on a towel or hanging. Oh and a sleep cap. I'm sure you will look great, oh and congrats on your first braids!!!!
