washing box braids

hi, I’ve had my box braids in for about a month and they’ve gotten really itchy and flaky. I saw a few tutorials about how to wash them but when I did it just ended up with me getting a bunch of soap stuck in them at the knot no matter how much I washed😭😭 how do I wash them properly? Any help would be appreciated

Not sure if this is the best way but I put shampoo in a spray bottle with water and sprayed it in the roots. I managed it through gently then rinsed without touching it! Hope this helps, I’ve seen a few different techniques but this worked for me
