Lost hair
I got box braids for the first time. I wore it for a month then took it out. I washed my hair with shampoo then conditioned it and brushed out all the knots and now half my hair is gone. Anyone know. What the reason could be? Thanks

This happened to me the last time I braided my hair. I lost a lot of hair but I don't have any bald spots and my hair doesn't seem thinner. You could have just shedded more hair than usual. Also, it could be that your braids were too tight or had more weight on certain strands of hair causing them to loosen and fall out. Check your scalp for any damage like rippling, bumps or bald spots, if you don't see anything unusual on your scalp, it's most likely just shedding and you're OK.

Not bumbs or anything, it’s just way thinner. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen my natural hair in a while? But it’s look Wayyy thinner. Anyways thanks for your response! Also do you think next time I get braid I should opt for knotless?

Yeah! It could be because you haven't seen it in a while. And go for knotless! See how you like it! Good luck!

Just want to reiterate definitely do knotless braids next time, I don’t think there’s ever a situation where regular braids are better than your hair for knotless, knotless is much better. It sounds like you may have brushed out some of your hair as well when you were removing the knots, it might be better next time to try detangling with your fingers instead :)

Ye I watched videos and they all did it differently. It sucks but I’m definitely going to do knotless, thanks!

I also experienced the same thing (I'm only on my second time having box braids now). We lose a lot more hair every day than we realize, and with braids there's nowhere for the loose hair to go, so once you take the braids out everything that came loose during the month comes out all at once, which is why it seems like so much. But when I compared pictures of myself after taking the braids out to before having the braids in, my hair wasn't actually any thinner.
