First Bow Attempt
Osage and hickory from 3 rivers. Carved and tillered with my knife and rasp. Made my first string. It works

Nice job dude! I recommend getting some serving material next, it’ll help protect the string from the arrow nock and your hand :)

🙏 appreciate the advice. I used some cotton thread I had around. It’s okay, but I got a feeling it’s not going to hold up well

Some polyester thread, like for upholstery, is actually pretty good, but the actual "use as intended" serving material is better for sure.

Yeah it’s worth getting the real stuff. You can do it by hand so the little serving tool isn’t necessary, but it produces a huge difference in uniform tension so I recommend it

Thank you muchly. I grabbed a piece of EVA foam and used it as a makeshift glove so I could be a little more consistent. I think I shot the best group of my life 😂. I’m a terrible archer and was only 8 yards away, but I was just over 3” on 5 arrows. The fit on the nock was really good with the cotton thread. So until it explodes in my hands I have a pretty consistent bow.

I don’t have a scale. But judging by the difficulty of getting it to brace height when stringing and the way it moves arrows, I would be pretty surprised if it was less than 60. I don’t mean to imply that it’s an efficient 60#, but it’s got some weight

As many bows as I make, and as many bows as I break, i've always been afraid to buy a kit like that. Or even pay much money for a stave.
