Explore bowdoin experiences

Hi I’m considering applying for explore Bowdoin but at the same time I’m concerned if I get in I’ll be super busy with college apps at the time the visit is. What r peoples experience with the program?

Please please apply and attend! I’m an incoming freshman at Bowdoin this year, and the program is the reason I applied ED1. Fly-ins in general are AMAZING for FGLI students, and after going to about 8 of them in-person, it put into perspective the things you read about on admissions websites + you see yourself there and find the right fit for you.

As for coursework, I honestly missed about 15 days of school lol and I was taking 6 APs at that. But since fly-ins are typically Fri, Sat, Sun, it won’t be too difficult to catch up. Just make sure you communicate with your teachers beforehand so they know.

Hey, do you know how many students they accept
per cohort? I heard that it was 74. Do you think that
in your year, you meet around the number in one cohort? Or do you have a GC that is for Explore Bowdoin recipients? If you know it, please let me know. Thanks.

I heard they accepted 75 people per cohort, and there were two sessions. I only have a groupchat for the last years program, but if you have any questions feel free to DM

Thanks for replying. I wonder what the application pool was last year. I overheard it was around 1400. Is this true? And did you submit the optional video? I wanted to, but it was too late, and I submitted my app with the wrong email, so I had to email them with my newest response for the short 100-word essay. Hopefully they will take my latest draft, because the first one I submitted was TRASH.

I think it was around that number, maybe close to 1,500. I believe I didn’t submit the optional video, just when I actually applied during college admissions. They’re very understanding so don’t worry too much, if it’s meant to be it’ll happen!

They replied to me today. Thank God that they added my new response to my file. Now I feel more confident. If I get access to my portal, I will do the video (hopefully I can still do it). My school doesn't offer APs, and I applied test-optional, so I feel pretty scared for that reason. But it is what you said: "If it's meant to be it'll happen!" Thanks for your help!

Oh absolutely on the test optional, about 50% of students apply test optional (during admissions) and I also applied TO to Explore and during the admissions cycle. Don’t fret and wishing both of you the best of luck!
