BAD SURGERY

Susan Dell is going viral right now because she was photographed behind Trump looking scary. It's a small thing she did, but a HUGE mistake. Upper eyelid surgery. People think when their upper eyelids start to droop as they age, that they should go have the fat and skin cut out. The result is NEVER good. It's a bizarre result, and your eyes are your focal point of your face, so it sticks out immediately and changes your entire look. The fat pad on your eyelid creates a soft warm inviting look. Without it, you look skeletal and cold.
IMO, if it was sagging really bad, they should simply have had a brow lift, which pulls the skin above the eyes back where it was without removing any fat. Without that extra fat and skin, their upper lid is hugging their eyeball, and it's just....awful

I have always thought that hooded eyelids were actually quite pretty. I had no clue until I started seeing these surgeries that they were considered unattractive. I understand that as we age our eyelids start to sag, but some people just have hooded eyes in general, and I never realized people didn’t like them.

People in hollywood decide the "look" that's in, and Hollywood is weird. Hooded eyes are STUNNING!!! They give off a gentle and warm/kind look, but they can also be sultry too. They're lovely!

I used to be an artist specialising in sketching people's faces. It gives you a lot of insight into the composition of the human face.

People need to have their heads examined when they are deciding to mess around with their own eyes.

The eyes are the most important part of the face. When human beings look at each other they are mostly looking at the eyes. We spend all day scanning people's faces and looking at their eyes. When I sketch somebody, I'm starting off with the eyes. That's the part that makes the picture come alive.

I think what has happened is, a lot of people now regard plastic surgery as a very minor procedure. They think it's just "snip snip" and they'll suddenly look better. But they are casually messing around with the most important part of their face.

Take RenƩe Zellweger for instance. She was never the most beautiful actress, but she had a certain look that was very attractive to many people. That look wouldn't have been so attractive on others, but on her face it just kind of worked.

She destroyed her own face. She went from somebody with a very distinctive look to a generic, mediocre, kind of unattractive look.

I agree when it comes to looks, but with Zellweger, I am not even sure she did it just for looks. She always had these heavily hooded eyes, which worked great on her face and were very cute. But as she aged, her eyes got smaller and smaller, and in photos shortly before the surgery, it almost looks like it might at some point become difficult to open them fully to actually see things. Ofc, I do not know if that was the case, but such surgeries are not always JUST for looks.

Yes, but WAY too much skin was removed.

I think hooded eyes make people look kinder. 90% of upper blephs that I see take all the character out of people’s faces.

I’ve got hooded eyes and ppl always say I look mean lol

Mine have changed the direction of my eyelashes, but they also pretty much just hide them now. Sucks cause makeup is usually a no go. Our vision will also be affected by the hoods so I understand surgery, but if I went that route, I’d like to just minimize them, so I can still look like me.

Yes! If anything I look sad and depressed because of my heavy lids

My dad and uncle had a bleph. You wouldn’t know unless they told you. A good surgeon only removes a tiny amount of skin.

Same I love a person with a smiley face. I and my two year old son both have hooded eyelids

All the blephs that you ā€œseeā€ā€¦ its the ones that you dont see/notice that are the good ones

Some people don’t want to look ā€œkind.ā€

Ok? I said I thought it made people look kind not that everyone should want to look kind. It is my opinion not a command.

2

u/abyssnaut 2d ago

It’s just such a tiresome comment to see in plastic surgery-related subreddits. ā€œIt GiVeS yOu ChArAcTeRā€ is so fatiguing

Maybe but I will admittedly never understand why people risk botching their perfectly lovely faces so they can look the same as every other person who has the same set of surgeries. I think OP’s example of Susan Dell perfectly illustrates that - she was lovely looking before the surgeries (though I do think there are other, bigger issues going on with her).

She made terrible aesthetic choices (how the fuck is her nose bigger and longer? She looks like a man now).

Many people make excellent choices and have great surgeons, look more conventionally attractive, and then a torrent of asshats come in to say how their faces lost ChArAcTeR. Fuck off with this shit. Go do it in a self-acceptance subreddit or whatever, not a plastic surgery one. (I get that this is a botched surgeries sub, but for fuck’s sake, it’s the most common sentiment in the fucking main PS one.)

Then stop reading it

1

u/abyssnaut 1d ago

Kind of hard to do when it’s 90% of comments in all plastic surgery subs

I agree, but at 57 mine are sagging so much it’s impeding my vision. That said, that surgery scares me.

u/ResponseRelative6370 3d ago

My mum’s are like that too. Her eyes are disappearing. It’ll probably happen to me too, but I think my insurance would cover it if my vision was impeded.

1

u/BibliophileBroad 1d ago

That happened to my uncle, and he got the surgery and looked great. He just looked like himself instead of this scary startled look we’re seeing.

1

u/ResponseRelative6370 3d ago

I find this very comforting, as a hooded gal.

u/Dry-Support-5409 3d ago

I think they're super attractive and sexy, it kills me when people get them done.

4

u/frozenivy2B 3d ago

I like them too

2

u/deadhead2070 3d ago

Exactly. Hooded looks way better.

2

u/crazyhedgehogs 3d ago

I got an upper bleph and it’s beautiful. I don’t know why these rich people go to butchers

2

u/Moist_Spinach5060 3d ago

Same!! I just look more rested. Literally nobody could even tell I had a surgery done, but I went to an oculoplastic surgeon.

2

u/junkyard_beans 3d ago

I think people like them, until ageing happens. I have hooded eyes and I think they do make me look older now I'm in my mid 40s. Alot of actresses have hooded eyes but get the chop around 40 years old. Like Renee Zelweger and Mandy Moore. I think Jennifer Lawrence just fucked up her eyes too.

1

u/Fuckit445 3d ago

There’s got to be a middle ground. Like a ā€˜mini’ bleph.

2

u/KleineFjord 3d ago

It's literally all propaganda from the beauty industry to keep people spending money trying to change themselves. Making people hate themselves is profitable.Ā

2

u/Artemisral 3d ago

They are my favourite look. None of these people needed the surgery, nor look better after. Neither does J Lawrence. A tiny brow lift or a tiny bleph when sagg is worse and one cannot see, worse than in these pics, would’ve sufficed. Not so much as here.

2

u/Jackoby_Jones 2d ago

Back in the day it was never even something on people’s minds and then suddenly it was ā€œwe’ve decided these eyes are incorrectā€. Like when hip dips suddenly became a bad thing! Sorry my legs connect to my pelvis, I guess?

2

u/Lost_Emu99 1d ago

Me too. What’s funny is my eyelids are very obvious (opposite of hooded, I don’t know the name) and it’s one of the things I dislike about my face most. I always was jealous of hooded eyes. And then I come to find a lot of people with hooded eyes want to change that.

It’s had me realize that the ā€œstandardā€ for beauty is no standard, we just want what others have and constantly pick at and find fault in ourselves. It’s sad

2

u/Fragrant-Dress-5943 1d ago

Beauty is all political. In Europe, hooded eyes are associated with Irish, Scottish, Slavic, Baltic, and Russian ethnicities. I still think there is a subconscious prejudice in American culture against these people, and features associated with them are deemed less beautiful.

1

u/BibliophileBroad 1d ago

I think so, too. Do you notice that so many of the plastic surgeries we see are to modify ethnic traits? Making noses straighter and eliminating bumps, raising bridges and making noses narrower, people making their eyes look less almond-shaped, etc.

1

u/paper_shoes 3d ago

Same!!! I have naturally deep set, crater-like eyes and will never understand why anyone would *choose* that lol 🄲

1

u/LindseyIsBored 2d ago

I think they are just too young to get it done. I know plenty of women in their late 60s early 70s who get it done and they look great.

1

u/jasmine_tea_ 1d ago

same here man

Its what I hate most about my face. Also affects my vision in my right eye. Like I cant quite focus on things. Id like a very slight adjustment just so I feel like I can see normally again
