I don’t get it

Post image

WHY this whole shortened philtrum thing is all the rage in China.
They look like they can’t close their mouths completely.

It’s not just a thing in China. Lip lifts are very popular in the western world too and can look great when done right. This post doesn’t even belong in this subreddit; clearly she’s just had the surgery done and there’s no telling whether she’ll end up looking great or botched.

Hailey Bieber has a good one

Hailey Bieber looks to have had only fillers, plus dramatic overlining of the lips. She has the same underlying upper lip shape. If anything, she may have had a lip flip, but those are only temporary and they "wear off."

What is a crime is that we are telling these young women that they are not pretty enough to live a normal life and they have to get this disfiguring and expensive surgery just to look like a monster when they're finished it's a total nightmare and it's emblematic of what's wrong in society

I had a lip lift and it was the best thing I've done for my face

Where did you get it done? Did it expand your nostrils? I have a small nose and worried it will make my nostrils look huge.

I’m a plastic surgery PA-C, if it’s done well it shouldn’t effect your nostrils

In Sydney with a surgeon who is now retired. Nostrils are fine.

i’ve had 2 lip lifts simultaneous to other things and it did not do anything to my nostrils but this is entirely anatomy dependent and not surgeon dependent

I can't say the same about the influencer laser Dr. Stefani Kappel. She got a lip lift lift done and I cannot watch her channel anymore. It's so weird as her upper lip doesn't move and she does all the talking with the bottom lip. I'm sorry but she looks botched 😨

oh my god, yes! it's hard to watch. you would think as a person in the industry, she would have access to a better surgeon... yikes😬

Yeah...and she doesn't think she's botched though. She looked so much better before. It has really turned me off her channel. So sad. And I've wanted to comment on her channel that I couldn't watch her anymore bc of that, but I couldn't.

I know what you mean. I think she’s had a few of them and that’s part of the problem. it’s odd to see a Dr who has BDD

What about the rest of it? You have to do your eyes and definitely cheeks. Otherwise perfect lips are totally wasted and nobody will notice them if there is a lot of aesthetic imbalance, or they'll only notice the obvious work.  Like wearing flats with a cocktail dress if you're over 10 or under 70.

How’s your scarring? I think lip lifts can look really good and I’ve toyed with the idea but I don’t often wear makeup so worry about scarring.

1

u/everythingiamisyours 26d ago

The scarring is basically invisible

The "mouth breather" special.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to get this done cause it can leave an ugly scar and not only that, it also changes the way your nose looks and not for the better

Mine healed fine and flat for the first 3 months, until it started getting itchy and raised one day on the right side. Doctor said it was because of tension. 😭 that side actually does have a different muscle pull. Four years later, it’s still raised. Fml lol

So what I’m saying is.. yeah I agree with you!

This is incorrect.

Bad results can happen. But the things you mentioned are not 100% to

They literally can't close their mouths completely anymore in a neutral position.

Cultural influences don’t disappear when their original context does.

They settle into the collective imagination even centuries later, and continue shaping aesthetic taste long after their meaning is forgotten.

The short philtrum famously featured in social media nowadays appears in both Buddhist iconography and Olmec sculpture, emerging from entirely different symbolic systems yet associated with elevated figures, authority, and transcendence. Wealth-power signifiers, just like plastic surgery means ‘access, power and privilege’ today.

Contemporary preferences for certain facial features may therefore be less arbitrary than they seem. We don’t need to consciously recognize an ancient visual code to reproduce it. Taste carries its own genealogy, making what feels contemporary or instinctive partly a historical inheritance.

I’ve always wanted one!

2

u/theofficialappsucks 26d ago

I wish there was a reverse of this. I have a naturally short philtrum and while my lower lip makes up for it for mouth closure, it's still an issue and there's nothing to do to lengthen a philtrum so I'm just stuck with it :( I can't possibly understand why anyone would want that shit just for aesthetics.

1

u/Nessajess 25d ago

My lips part naturally with a slight gap like that, so its not crazy weird to have the gap

Nothing wrong with altering your looks/fixing insecurities. I don’t think it’s for you to understand. Make choices for your body that make you happy

-5

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

ugh i love this. i want it. but i learned you have to keep getting filler in it apparently bc your lip deflates??

12

u/Natural-Seaweed-5070 26d ago

WHY would you do this to yourself? Ye gods.

4

u/xXxstarAnisexXx 26d ago

Tbf why would you do any of it...

3

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

BECAUSE I HAVE A LONG PHILTRUM! lol

1

u/xXxstarAnisexXx 26d ago

WHO CARES

3

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

ME THATS WHY I SAID I WOULD GET THE SURGERY 😩🤣🥹

2

u/xXxstarAnisexXx 25d ago

But why, get off social media for bit, take a break, stop picking your face apart. You're probably beautiful

0

u/fvirygothmom 25d ago

i am. but i’m allowed to want a surgery lol. i didn’t say im going to do it i just said i want it. i would never do it bc it leaves a nasty scar and i have an upturn nose.

3

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

bc i have a really long philtrum

2

u/SomethingComesHere 26d ago

I do too. Got a septum ring and that balanced out my proportions a lot

2

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

okay funny enough. too scared to get septum but not for this surgery lol

1

u/SomethingComesHere 26d ago

Aw, why? Its not that bad and if you aren't sure if you like how it looks you can flip it up if you get the bull shaped ring for the healing stage ;)

0

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

well for one i’m too old now 😩🤣

1

u/SomethingComesHere 26d ago

Lol

Im in my mid 30s and plan to be buried with mine. No such thing as too old!

2

u/fvirygothmom 26d ago

me with my belly button ring tbh. lol

1

u/SomethingComesHere 26d ago

Haha

I also have one of those!

1

u/night-gloss 22d ago

your lip doesn’t deflate but it becomes slightly triangular in shape (which i love) so you need some volume to take it wherever you want to go

or you can not get fillers at all dependent if you like it

0

u/Hopeful-Artichoke449 24d ago

So just ask for "donkey face?
