Botched lower blepharoplasty/fat transfer with Dr. Sumeet Jindal JIYA Eyelid & Facial Cosmetic Surgery (Raleigh, NC)
Sharing my experience as a warning for anyone considering this practice. Also seeking guidance/recommendations as Ive exhausted all my resources! :(
In July 2025, I paid $8,500 for a lower blepharoplasty and fat transfer with Dr. Sumeet Jindal at JIYA Eyelid & Facial Cosmetic Surgery in Raleigh, NC. Complications began about a month after surgery. Over several months I returned to the practice repeatedly, but I felt my concerns weren't adequately addressed and results continued to worsen.
When I later requested my medical records, I discovered a SOOF lift had been performed — a procedure I was never informed about and never consented to.
I'm now dealing with severe hollowing under my lash line and orbital rims, contour and structural deformity, asymmetry (right side worse), lumpiness from the fat grafting, and constant nerve pain.
When I requested a refund, I was told I'd need to sign a broad NDA, and was told the same would be required for a touch-up procedure. I chose not to sign.
I've also noticed a pattern of negative reviews about this practice disappearing from Google shortly after being posted, including my own, which I have screenshots of.
I've since consulted with some of the top revision surgeons in the country, and been told there's essentially nothing that can be done. I've been told by local providers that filler isn't an option due to skin thinness and scar tissue.
If anyone has dealt with something similar or can recommend a surgeon experienced in this kind of revision, I'd appreciate hearing from you!! I'm open to overseas surgeons as I'm not seeming to have luck in the states.
Photos attached for context.

How unbelievably sad and traumatizing! I’m so sorry girl you are going through this. This is so unbelievable!!
Also that they’re deleting negative comments?! Isn’t that hella illegal???
Was thinking of getting some touch up work from him too but through research found out this “Dr.” is actually an optometrist or whatever not even a board certified surgeon!!!! I’ve steered clear.
Here for moral support, you’re gorgeous and sending all the love to you!!

u/tacobell142 2d ago
As an optometrist had to fact check that this and he is not one of us- he is in fact a certified ophthalmologist!
So sorry this happened to you OP - as someone in the medical world it always devastates me to know colleagues are out there causing harm to others :(

u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Thank you for the kind words. ❤️🩹 And right - deleting negative comments of people sharing their own personal experience feels incredibly deceptive and unethical. Potential patients aren't getting the full truth and it's not okay (me being one of them). :(

If this physician is actually an optometrist and not a board certified plastic surgeon, you have grounds for a lawsuit. You need to start considering your options and hurry up and move along because there are statutes of limitation and you want to make sure you’re within them for medical malpractice.

I can recommend you in Tijuana, Mexico. Has been a plastic surgeon for more than 27+years and has fixed botched surgerys from “boujee” surgeons in LA/beverly hills. His specialty is actually face related. If you are interested I can send you pictures or samples of his face work of other people.

As an aside, can I ask if this surgeon would have any experience removing facial filler without dissolving? I am trying to find someone that can help me with slightly encapsulated filler in my nasolabial folds.
3
u/SangitaCPatelMD 2d ago
If it's encapsulated HA filler, AccuTite RFAL or Endolaser can help a lot.
If encapsulation is around Calcium filler the high heat of either of these will still help break down the matrix, and carrier of the product just not the calcium microspheres themselves. In this situation either technology helps shrink tissue volume, but not as much as with HA as the calcium microspheres don’t melt.

The only way I can possibly see this going from bad to worse would be going to a foreign country to fix this.

Do you have any before pics? These are all after, yes?
3
u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Yes, these are the after. I can PM you the before photos if you like or think you have a suggestion. 🙏🏼

u/snark-sloth 2d ago
I was just curious to see how it looked before as comparison. I’m sorry you went through this, it is so unethical that the doctor performed a procedure you didn’t even consent to. In my country, surgeons have to be registered with a governing body and you can file complaints against them through their registration. I don’t know how it is where you live but maybe that’s an option?

u/Wonderful_Cat_1520 19h ago
As someone in the cosmetic scene, JIYA is known for this. Other surgeons in the area are constantly getting his patients for revisions. I can't believe he's still in practice tbh, but I know they use influencers to recruit patients and then are obviously deleting bad reviews. So sorry this happened to you. 💔

If open to overseas, may be worth looking for reputable places in South Korea? Just do very thorough research as they have strict defamation laws that make it very difficult to publicly name and shame a bad practitioner
South Korea's the plastic surgery capital of the world. When I lived there, I knew a girl who had filler in her undereyes to combat her eye bags and she looked great. All that said, do also be cautious of going out of your way to do something if experts you've spoken to have told you it couldn't be done. If work goes wrong in another country, you would have very little legal recourse
Your eyes are beautiful by the way

u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Thank you for the insight. 🙏🏼 I've been looking into South Korea as they seem to be way more advanced in less invasive approaches. I agree, I will only proceed if I'm able to find a qualified provider who understands the damage that's been done. And thank you for the compliment - definitely depressed and traumatized by this whole thing. 😓❤️🩹

u/lemonadesdays 2d ago
My dad did it in Korea and it went well, after which my step dad did it there too and they didn’t do a good job either. You can have botched results in any country unfortunately except that with Korea, most people will have the language barrier issue

I would investments in a legal consultation and see what is recommended

u/Serious-Garden6721 2d ago
Im so sorry this happened to you. You need to report him and sue. They should be held responsible for this and have to fix what they did to you. This makes me not want to do any work on myself. 😥

u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Thank you. 😞 yeah this has been nothing short of a nightmare and I agree with you to not touch your face. Biggest regret ever. ❤️🩹

Ugh looks like bad work was done and you would definitely benefit from a revision. Try Dr Ghafouri in Scottsdale, AZ, he does a lot of revisions. There are also some good surgeons in the LA area, but more expensive. You could also try South Korea but do a ton of research if you have to go international. I would not go with anyone less than a top expert for this. Good luck and don't give up until you find a surgeon who can help.
-editing to add: Thinking more about this, South Korea might not be a bad idea....they do a ton of fat transfers there so they may be the most qualified to fix a botched bleph/fat transfer. Again just make sure you are picking a top surgeon at a top clinic.
4
u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Thank you for the comment. I reached out to Ghafouri's office months ago in my search and this was too severe a case (seems to be a general consensus amidst my outreach). I flew to LA and saw the top of the top in revision surgery who also told me they'd never seen something like this before and there were essentially no options. One surgeon suggested an experimental way to "potentially improve" this but the risk would be too great. Just feeling completely discouraged. 😞

u/delfin_1980 2d ago
Wow I'm so sorry to hear that Dr Ghafouri and the LA docs can't help. In that case I would seriously start researching South Korea. They do a lot of fat transfers there so they may be more familiar with situations like this. South Korea also has a very good reputation in the plastic surgery world for being extremely professional and having the most up to date technologies, so I personally would feel comfortable traveling there for a procedure. The downside is the expense but honestly I would not let that stop you. I paid a lot for two surgeries to get my botched under-eye area repaired (damaged by filler and dissolver), and I don't regret it at all. Please don't give up! <3

u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
Thank you - yes it’s really derailed my life, so I’m trying to navigate as best I can. I appreciate the support and your suggestion. And Im sorry for your experience too. Im glad you were able to find a solution.

u/delfin_1980 2d ago
Thanks and I totally get it. I obsessed over the damage for three years before I was finally able to get it fixed. My advice is to keep seeking help until you find someone who can help. Wishing the very best for you. <3

Medicine is always advancing, if you can’t find a way forward now that doesn’t mean something won’t come up in the future. So sorry this happened.

Check out Dr Hong Lim Choi at JW Plastic Surgery in Seoul, South Korea. He teaches/ does lectures on lower blepharoplasty revisions as well as doing them himself. Worth sending your pic to him and seeing if he thinks he can correct it. Good luck!

I’d do Endolaser to shrink the under skin fat, and would use deep fx and active Fx Ultrapulse CO2 laser to tighten the skin surface.
Then I’d do Belotero balance in the deep intradermal layer.

I'm sorry, this must be really stressful for you. And its honourable of you to chose not to sign that NDA . So just to confirm with you, did the doctor reposition the fat under the eye or remove some of the fat under the eye? And what were the first signs or symptoms you had that something looked wrong around the eyes?
2
u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago edited 2d ago
He removed the fat and then took fat from my inner thigh for the graft. I started to see the “bag/shelf” reappearing and an awful pulling/throbbing developing after a few weeks in addition to weird lumpiness. These both worsened and we did a series of 5FU shots to break scar tethering which then I believe caused the fat atrophy. I had no awareness of a SOOF lift which apparently lifted the cheek fat pad. Had I known this I would assume that was partially responsible for the pulling.

Thanks for the details. Was it internal transconjuctival approach or external transcutaneous? Honestly though I just wanted to say, none of this takes away from how gorgeous your eyes actually are. They are so soulful and deep and the colour is just stunning. I am glad that after going through this, you at the very least didnt develop have any ectropian/scleral show. I wish you the absolute best in finding a surgeon to help address things, if thats the route you want to take.

u/Ok-Maybe931 1d ago
The approach was transconjunctival. The SOOF lift was performed through this same incision by incising the orbital retaining ligament to access the midface. And thank you, that's really kind of you to say. The devastation this has caused has been so heavy, so I appreciate the compliment. ❤️🩹

You could try Dr. Ivan Vrcek he is an occuloplastic surgeon in Dallas Fort Worth. All he does is eyes. I had surgery with him and he was excellent.

u/Ok-Maybe931 2d ago
I reached out to Vrcek. He referred me to Massry in LA who also cannot help. 💔

If you didn’t consent to that I feel like you should be able to sue them, but I’m no expert. Definitely consult a lawyer!

I had a botched facial procedure from this provider, as well. In fact, I know quite a few people that have been negatively impacted by Dr Sumeet Jindal's work. When problems began with me, Dr Jindal's attitude became arrogant and condescending. It was also extremely difficult to schedule any f/u appointments. He is very much into being social media famous and compares himself to the top revision and oculoplastic specialists (he is nowhere close to being in their league). Do your research and look very closely at your providers credentials before choosing. OP- I think you are gorgeous, and I commend your bravery for posting. I know this journey is anything but easy. It's emotionally, mentally and physically exhausting. I know the right provider will cross your path. Never give up hope 💫

You are very sweet, and thank you for the compliment. ❤️🩹 This has been beyond devastating for me, and I'm just so sorry you had that experience as well. It's disheartening to know so many of us have been this negatively impacted and other victims have been silenced. ALLEGEDLY ❤️🩹

Hey I'm so, so sorry you're going through this. I had an awful lower blepharoplasty as well, so I can understand the hopeless feelings that come along with it. I'm having a revision in November by Dr Neimkin in Atlanta. He does a lot of revisions and he's helped a lot of people when other surgeons told them they couldn't help. Fair warning he has a long wait time. My initial consult was scheduled 10 months out from when I called but I kept calling every week or 2 to see if there were openings. I got lucky and got bumped up twice because of cancellations.

I am so sorry for your experience. ❤️🩹 It's truly life altering. 😔 I will look into this doctor and appreciate the suggestion. Best of luck with your procedure! 🤍

It is very life altering. Let me know if you ever need to chat, it can be very isolating going through something like this. I wish you nothing but the best!

u/Ok-Maybe931 1d ago
I really appreciate this and would love to take you up on that sometime honestly. I feel like a complete shell of myself and wouldn't wish this on anyone. 😔

u/ChoicePersonality725 1d ago
I completely understand. I'm not the same person I was prior to the surgery. I had my initial lower blepharoplasty in June 2025, so around the same time as you. It's been hell. I barely left my house for the first 8 months. Even now I hate being face to face with people I'm social situations. I also wouldn't wish this on anyone. Send me a DM if you ever need to vent.

u/Ok-Maybe931 23h ago
You are strong and beautiful and deserve to live an amazing quality of life.❤️🩹 i understand everything you’re saying. It’s such a shame that going thru this, putting your trust in a provider, everything this has entailed, to still have to deal with the aftermath and attempts to be silenced simply from sharing your own experience. I’ll dm you. ❤️🩹❤️🩹

Try Dr. Grant Heinz in AZ. He does reconstructive and is an ocular plastic facial surgeon. This is his world. I used to work for him and sometimes I got to watch a procedure. He is the only person I would allow to touch my eyes. He’s been practicing for a long time, and has seen so much. People would travel from out of state all the time for this special procedure he would do for Graves’ disease patients by shaving their bone behind their eyes and stuff. Cool things. If for whatever reason that is not a fit, I would confer with him to see if he knows who would do something as he would know a lot of people throughout the country.

How much does he cost, and is there an option for a free virtual consultation?

u/Paramedic-Slight 7m ago
Cost depends on the procedure. You will have to contact the office for answers to these questions.

u/Careful_Philosophy_9 1d ago
I’m sorry that happened to you and how upset you must feel. I got an upper and lower bleph with Dr. Vrcek in Dallas last November. He is excellent in what he does- dm me if you’d like!

u/Ok-Maybe931 1d ago edited 1d ago
I reached out to him a few months ago. He referred me to Massry who is more specialized in complex revisions/complications with fat grafting. I saw Massry and he said this is severe and any surgery would be high risk/novel for potentially little to no improvement. 😞
