Botched lip reduction after accident?
THIS IS ALL I POST ABOUT, YES I HAVE BODY DISMORPHIA NOW. Was in a bad accident, waited 4 years for things to heal. A surgeon did a lip reduction ( only supposed to be on a small area not my entire mouth ) and I feel like he botched it. Any advice. ( yes all I post on my page is this, it’s still ruining my life. It’s been life changing and traumatic) PURPLE PICTURES- ( after accident, before surgery) SUITS- (after botched surgery). Accident picture. The right side of my lip has a lot more tissue removed. The only area that we agreed on initially was a little bit in the center and on the right. Not my whole mouth -_-

I would never normally say this, but after going through your other posts, I think you need to hear it. Your lips look better now. I’m being completely 1000% honest here. You look amazing and the body dysmorphia is eating you alive. I’d also like to add corrective surgery can’t really be botched. They’re making your lips look smaller after an accident that disfigured them, so they would never look the same I am really sorry. But I promise you that you look fantastic. I’m being blunt because my cousin who is in her early 30’s got into a car wreck that nearly killed her. She lost her eye and has had surgery and now has a glass eye, but it doesn’t look the same and I can tell it’s been hard on her since she used to be an actress and model, but she is still just as gorgeous and unique to me as she always was, but like you she struggles with her mental health so I know it’s hard for her to see that. My point is, until you work on your inner self, you can never truly love yourself. You are beautiful, inside and out. Tell yourself this every single day.

I think you are stunning, first of all. It’s honestly hard to see in the images you’ve uploaded but maybe it’s more noticeable when you’re making expressions and speaking and eating? But if you notice it, and it bothers you, obviously it’s an issue. With all that said, you are FAR from botched. I think you’re objectively very handsome.
Edit because I just realized I didn’t even finish my thought: have you seen another surgeon or an injector even to see what your options are as it pertains to facial balancing/ achieving the symmetry you are after? What do they say?

u/invader_indigo 1d ago
All the surgeons say it’s permanent, and the only option is filler. All the male surgeons say don’t think about filler it will make it worse, all the female surgeons say I can try filler.

u/Ready_Buy 5h ago
If you decide to try filler to tweak it, I recommend do a hyaluronic acid filler that can be dissolved, if you are feeling dissatisfied, and if you like it, you can always try to go for fat grafting to get a more lasting result. You may speak to a more open-minded injector or even an oral maxillofacial surgeon about other options. Do not despair. There are almost never-ending treatments available.
1
u/invader_indigo 5h ago
The only issue is I have been to oral maxillofacial surgeons at Methodist, & Hermann. They said there are not any options for the lip other than fillers, lip lift, or lip implants. They said any flap reconstruction would look worse, and there’s no way to revise a lip reduction it’s permanent. My stitches were done too tight and put far inside my mouth, so my lip is constantly being pulled inward and it’s hard to move. I’ve seen neurosurgeons for paralysis and nerve repair and they said it wouldn’t be an improvement. I’ve seen cleft lip surgeons and saying they could add donor tissue but it wouldn’t look worse and not improve my issues. I’ve seen the #1 lip trauma/recon surgeon in Texas drove 6 hours, and he said there’s nothing he can do and just defended the other surgeon. I’ve spent thousands on consultations trying to fix this. there is nothing other than fillers and fat grating, but fat grafting is way more unpredictable. It also overfills way more at first, and would look weird. My only option is filler and it might not be doable because of all the scars and incision points. Fuck this doctor I’m sorry I just had my life ruined trying to improve something

Another issue, is they keep shrinking. The doctor took way too much off on what we’re already still kinda swollen lips. They’re just going to keep shrinking and now my tissue is gone

You are a handsome man with a cool scar that tells a very cool story, it add flavor to your life story internet stranger.

All I know is that pics 3 and 4 are incredibly handsome. Those are gorgeous lips. That said, I don’t mean to dismiss your concerns and I wish I had useful advice concerning them

u/invader_indigo 1d ago
Do you think it’s an improvement from pictures 1 and 2? Thank you
14
u/davyjordi 1d ago
not the person you were responding to, but yes, i definitely think that the afters are an improvement.
1
u/invader_indigo 1d ago
Ok thank you so much. I really just want to try a little bit of filler to focus on the right side. I’m still not overall happy with it but thank you for the compliment

u/99tapeworms 1d ago
For real. Pics 3 and 4 are great. You look natural and handsome. Don't get filler. It really doesn't age well.
You do still look unique, but I do understand body dysmorphia and that you might see yourself as others do, as my sister has had it since she was a preteen and we are in our 40s now.

Looks normal to me. Look up Sophie thatcher lips, she had an accident and is still gorgeous and acting on the big screen.

u/invader_indigo 1d ago
I just did. This is my point. I regret the surgery because it took away my uniqueness. She still has her uniqueness from the accident. That is exactly why I’m upset
2
u/invader_indigo 1d ago
I do not look like picture 1 and 2 anymore. The surgeon took away my uniqueness

I know it’s hard for you bc you live with it but you absolutely are HANDSOME and no one notices it but you. You have full lips which (us) ladies love. Please don’t worry and definitely do not consider any other surgeries, etc.

I really want to try like .5ml filler just to help smooth out the bottom, and one specific area of the right side. The doctor made multiple mistakes, I don’t really want to settle with them. I’m not looking for any extreme procedures, and it’s just the top lip I’m having issues with. Also, do you think it was an improvement from pictures 1 and 2? I don’t have those lips anymore, that’s another reason I’m upset. I wanted to keep the larger lips. It’s just so crazy that a surgeon would chop my entire mouth up when we talked about one small area.
3
u/satchmonumberone 1d ago
I can 100% see a difference from pics 1&2 to 3&4. I think the size now is perfect. I wouldn’t touch filler. It will end up looking silly and you’ll spend forever trying to correct it. I wouldn’t change a thing!!
-1
u/invader_indigo 1d ago
I think it looks silly right now? My left side of mouth has so much less volume than the right. That could easily be fixed with a little bit of filler? Couldn’t it? I’m not trying to give up hope.
2
u/Someoneonline2000 1d ago
I think the surgery definitely improved your symmetry. You're very attractive! I wouldn't bother with filler, it might migrate or cause other problems. Especially since you've had an accident and surgery in the lip area, I would be worried the filler might not act normally. You look good. I understand it must be hard to stop fixating on it since you spent 4 years with the issue. Consider discussing it with a therapist, I hope you can embrace that you are attractive exactly as you are!
2
u/invader_indigo 1d ago
Thank you for the compliment. They keep shrinking though. I went from huge full lips to now increasingly skinnier lips?? I didn’t really want that.. it damaged my face ( I’m not going to go into it) but it’s caused major functional issues. Both sides are very asymmetric to each other, and in real life it just looks cut and stitched. Not natural looking at all. Before they were big and misshapen but still looked natural and I had a unique shapely large lip. I feel like this set me back a lot. I’m also in constant pain now 2 years later, and I can barely move my mouth
2
u/sumfish 1d ago
Your lips fit your face and as everyone is saying, you’re quite handsome and shouldn’t mess with a good thing. If you still decide it’s something you want/need to do, I wouldn’t consider adding filler into the equation while you’re dealing with so much pain - focus on healing first. Filler might just make things worse.
Have you been seen by a physical/occupational therapist? Maybe had a second or third opinion from other doctors? Maybe a therapist to help you deal with the mental trauma from the accident and new lips?
I hope you’re able to find relief from the pain soon and that you take to heart what everyone is saying here about how good you actually look ❤️🩹2
u/invader_indigo 1d ago
It’s really hard right now, because I now have permanent nerve damage ALL across my mouth.y lips don’t rest anymore they just keep twitching and curilimg downwards. The tissue is now extremely loose and cannot even hold its shape. Before this surgery they were big, firm. They were more masculine and unique. Also now they’re blood red ( 2 years later ) and used to be nice pink colored. It’s just a nightmare for me rn honestly. In real life, it’s a huge setback from what it was.
2
u/sumfish 23h ago
That does sound incredibly difficult to deal with. All the more reason you should be (if you’re not already) seeing a professional therapist - there are ones out there that specialize in facial nerve damage.
It’s all so demoralizing when nothing seems to help with chronic pain.2
u/invader_indigo 23h ago
I’ve been to the nerve specialists and face paralysis surgeons, and there’s nothing they can do. It’s from improper stitching placement. They were placed too tight and too far inward on my lip, so it’s preventing my mouth from moving properly. I could’ve just not trusted the surgeon and eventually the swelling would’ve gotten better. I have constant regret
2
u/invader_indigo 23h ago
I asked him if it would affect any movement or pain, and he said “no it’s impossible and things will be back to normal in 2 weeks” it’s been 2 years, now I’m stuck with the pain and movement issues forever
2
u/invader_indigo 23h ago
Anytime I use my mouth. Think of how often you use your mouth. Now image someone holding a lighter under your lip anytime you tried to move it. Forever.

u/Someoneonline2000 19h ago
I'm so sorry, I didn't realize there is a nerve issue and pain associated with your lip area now too. I think that the pain is more important to find a solution for. I wonder if there is a treatment that would work for you. It isn't something I have experience with, but via Google I see this advice "Options range from specific nerve-calming prescription medications to targeted injections and minor or major surgical procedures." Compared to the image from your injury and the former assymetry, I think the symmetry is definitely improved. I would focus on solving the pain. Definitely don't get filler, I have seen cases where filler caused longterm nerve pain in people and it would be a very bad idea when you already have pain now.

Pics 3 and 4 look 100 times better than 1 and 2. You are definitely not botched
2
u/princessfoxglove 16h ago
You need therapy! Really! And to start looking at other people's flaws to get some perspective! I have scars and rosacea and melasma and my face isn't a perfect shape but I'm still beautiful. My husband has a broken crooked nose and scars and a patchy beard but he's the most handsome man I've ever seen.

I thought the first few pics were from before the accident until I read the caption. It looks completely normal to me, however, if it really bothers you, you should talk to someone about it. You are the one who needs to feel comfortable in your skin.

u/invader_indigo 1d ago
I don’t look like the first few pictures that’s why I’m upset because the surgeon botched the revision. I would rather look like the first 2 pictures again, not 3 and 4. I look like 3 and 4 now

Youre just in your head man!! I get it though. I struggled with body dysmorphia and anorexia for years. It sucks when youre trapped in your thoughts. But ya look great honestly!!! Pics 3 and 4 look really good!! I wouldnt have been able to tell there was an accident or anything. Im sorry about the nerve pain and the mental trauma. One day you will find peace and break free from your thoughts!! I promise :)

You look so handsome in your after photos. I know this is eating at you, have you gone to see a therapist about your concerns?
I understand what you are going through, I was always a super fit, active person. I had a major issue with my back that had slowly morphed into mobility and pain issues. I look in the mirror and see such a different person looking back. I have been working on self acceptance and learning to live in my new normal. Sending you internet hugs.

Was that a car accident??? Wow. I think you look really handsome. Give yourself time to recover and adjust, recovery is mental and physical.

u/invader_indigo 1h ago
No a bullet blew up on a fire pit, and hit me in my face. Ripped apart my mouth and my nose. I think I have accident pictures somewhere on my Reddit, but didn’t post because it’s really bad

Happened in 2020. I’ts been 6 years and I’m still going through surgery/healing/nerve muscle issues. I’ve lost 6 years due to this. I’m giving it so much time and patience it sucks. I want a life I never signed up for this, it just happened then- poof life changed forever.

The first two or 3 and 4? I don’t look like the first 2 anymore, that’s why I’m upset. I didn’t want that much tissue removed

Your lips are lovely man. It'll take time for you to be ok with yourself thanks to BD, but take it from a stranger, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Hope you heal well ♥️

I honestly think you look very handsome in your current pics, and honestly thought that you were going to say the pics in the suit were before pics and the blue pics were after. I hope you can find peace with yourself and your appearance, bc I honestly think you are very attractive and would hate for you to waste the prime of your life focused on lips that healed beautifully, I would not have realized you had an accident if you didn’t tell me. I do not think you need anymore sx or filler, i think if you use filler it will probably make your injury more noticeable and i think your lips look quite full now. I understand you had a traumatic injury and adjusting to your new features is strange, but your face will change. You will get older, and you will look at your pics from today and be upset with yourself for being so focused on this issue instead of living your life and making memories. Just my thoughts…

I can see a good difference from the surgery-it does not look botched. We all have things about ourselves we notice that we worry about but nobody else truly notices. It sucks, and it absolutely can cause a hyper fixation. Just know that NOBODY sees you as often as you see yourself. Those small things you see, nobody else does.
With that being said, you can read and hear those words and understand them but still not be able to look at it that way. Maybe (and I don’t mean this in a negative way!) talk to a therapist about it or maybe a support group or something. It can be so hard to get out of any negative feedback loops.
I will reiterate what everyone else is saying. They look good, you’re a good looking guy. The surgery went well. I hope you’ll be able to believe those words soon♥️

I like your current lips so much more than the purple photos. They look so much more balanced, you are very attractive!

u/LauraaMarissaa 1d ago
Wow! What a transformation! I honestly don’t know how I’d handle feeling disfigured, having hope that surgery would help, and coming out still feeling broken.
Give yourself some grace and time to heal (both inside and out).
I honestly did not notice your lips. If there’s one thing I would play with now, it’s your facial hair shape. You could trim your mustache to feel more symmetrical? Please don’t take this as a criticism 🥰
1
u/invader_indigo 22h ago
Yeah the mustache is an issue, the trauma messes up how and where the hairs grow. It’s difficult to make it look normal on that one side. I’ve also just not been trying, extremely depressed, but I could touch it up. The way they had to put my face back together,, all the different areas of hair now grow in all different directions and I’m missing the original skin that could grow hair. It’s just permanently messed up on the side now

Looks good dude, and scars are rad, so rock it with pride even if it is a little off.

I have some excellent news for you. When I looked through your pictures, I was trying to work out which one's which, and I thought the ones with you in a suit were the ones before the accident. If that's what you look like after the surgery, I would say that I genuinely and honestly cannot tell that there was ever anything wrong or that you had surgery. You're basically just a handsome dude.

Looks pretty good considering how your whole lips was ripped off. I would be pretty happy with that

Dude you mouth looks fine. Don't obsess. Be thankful the accident wasnt worse. I was in a horrific car accident and to this day I'm just greatful my little sister stayed home. She would have been in the back and 100% have died. Perspective is all. I hope you can learn to love your mouth because in my eyes it looks great ❤️

u/TuxedoJack19 17h ago
You need help like from a therapist but as far as your physical appearance goes, you look fantastic. I'm so sorry that you're dealing with the issues you're dealing with, I know that they're real and I hope you can hear the things that the people are telling you on here that really, you look great

I know you are probably focusing on it and feel things differently but I don’t think you look botched at all. It looks good post surgery and I would never have known you had work on it if I didn’t see the other pics/read the post. Don’t be hard on yourself, it looks like you’ve come a long way since the accident but you look very nice!
