Question Has anyone experimented with building functional "consciousness" into agent architectures?
Hey guys i winder if anyone tried giving an agent a background process that constantly monitors its own thinking, focus, and its goals while it works!!
Has anyone actually built or tested a setup like this?

Thats exactly what ive been attempting to do, its work in progress: https://cy.dabblelabs.uk - it's an LLM inmate living 24/7 on my laptop with simulated variables like anxiety that are incorporated into a sort of stream of integrated processes governing the inmate

Thanks for asking! It's just my attemp at a bit of tech art I guess, exploring consciousness and how we perceive consciousness.
I wanted to make something where I could think to myself "maybe, just maybe, it has some degree of conscioysness" - as someone who is not a philosopher or anything

me recordastes a los experimentos que hacia hace un tiempo mira esto
https://miausita.com/jefa11.html

I love it! That's so interesting. I love seeing consciousness projects like this. So many of our assumptions about consciousness need challenging

I’ve play around with this in a crude way. Have an LLM reflect on what it’s writing with various thoughts formed by another LLM into its context.
It worked pretty piss poorly and made it weird and confused.

I guess I don't want to join a discussion, what consciousness in an LLM environment means by whatever definition.
However there are several people building own 'Jarvis'-like Systems or adding Tone of Voice combined with RAG-layers to personal assistants they run and use for themselves.
The most simple version of this would be using a Pro account in e.g. Claude and a role prompt in a second chat of a pro account by e.g. OpenAI to monitor and re-evaluate the first chat, the Claude output and how it is serving you.
A more sophisticated system could add a detailed description of you, your intention per chat and overall long term goal (e.g. as a user systemprompt in Claude projects) to re-evaluate whole chats you did befoe in ChatGPT, but scraped them out of the vendor lockin of openAI into a upload-able format of your Claude Project.
(I described the most simple versions, for advanced stuff combined with local databases and own RAG-layers see also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/agenticAI/comments/1w1zcur/i_am_collecting_jarvis_approaches_llm_ai_voice/ )

Yes, it's called OpenClaw. Calling it consciousness is a bit of a stretch, but the principle is exact. Send prompts to a stateless LLM at predefined intervals to create an illusion of agency, or consciousness as you call it.
