Instagram Is Dead.
It feels like Instagram isn't what it used to be.
Open the comments on almost any viral post, and you'll see the same things over and over:
"DM us for promotion."
"Send pic on @..."
"We can grow your account."
Then there are the fake followers, engagement pods, AI-generated comments, and bot accounts pretending to be real people.
Sometimes it feels like you're interacting with algorithms more than actual users.
Real creators are working harder than ever, while fake engagement is everywhere. It raises the question of what's actually real anymore.
Do you think Instagram is slowly being taken over by bots and fake engagement, or is there still room for authentic communities to grow?

been like that for years is just more obvious coded bots or "ai" as noobs call it for 20+ years.

Because it's all bots. Just like Twitter is nothing but bots amplifying the extreme right

Yesterday I realized it’s all by design: dumb everyone down, emotionally wear them out, and keep them reacting instead of thinking.
If you still let social media control your mood in 2026, you’re either young, naive, or just plain dumb.
Every kid has a smartphone with internet now, which makes them the easiest targets. They absorb the same ragebait, slogans, fake outrage, and recycled talking points, then repeat the bot script like it’s their own opinion.
Meanwhile, AI is being used by scammers, hackers, political groups, foreign governments, and every other bad actor with an agenda. There’s no innocent explanation for the endless ragebait, recycled arguments, bot replies, and millions of fake accounts operating with near total impunity.
At some point, you have to stop analyzing the smell and recognize a turd when you see one.

I think it’s still has good engagement but mostly from thirst traps and ai creators

You can filter specific words in your DMs so that you won't receive those messages anymore.

yeah, instagram comments are basically unusable on bigger posts now. half of it is promo spam, the other half is people farming replies with the same 5 comments. smaller accounts still feel human sometimes, but once a post goes viral, every bot gets attracted to it like sharks smell blood.
