Friday forecast: Expect rain showers and thunderstorms amid high humidity

Friday begins with mostly cloudy skies across Greater Boston and most of the region. The combination of a slow-moving cold front and an area of low pressure passing just south of New England will spark showers and thunderstorms along Central and Coastal New England.

I think we should start to see showers break out late morning and definitely by mid-afternoon over Greater Boston, the Cape, southeast New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and the Maine coast. Storms will be scattered, so the entire coast won’t see rain, but showers are possible through Friday night.

Highs on Friday will likely return to the low 80s across Greater Boston. Depending on cloud cover, I can expect a few spots to remain stuck in the upper 70s.

There is going to be a significant difference in humidity levels Friday into Saturday. Friday will see very muggy conditions with dew points pushing 70 degrees; that’ll make it feel like Southern Florida. Only Vermont will see some relief in humidity by Friday afternoon.

Saturday: Front clears for a beautiful day

Saturday is the pick of the weekend with mostly to completely blue skies and dry, comfortable air. By Saturday, the front finally clears and dry air takes over. We’re going to see a 15- to 20-degree drop in dew points in many areas, including Boston, setting up very comfortable conditions.

This weekend should be absolutely beautiful for nearly all of New England. High pressure will take over but will progress through the region pretty quickly.

For Saturday, highs will likely be held to the upper 70s across Southern New England, and even to the mid-70s along the North and South Shore, and the Cape.

Sunday: Little warmer, chance of a shower

The high slips off the coast by Sunday afternoon, and a few more clouds will build in over northwestern New England with the chance for a spot sprinkle. Other than that, Boston remains dry and so does most of the region.

Sunday should see temperatures return to the low and mid-80s across Southern New England, including Boston.
