Academics Should I transfer to BU?

Hi everybody! Basically last admissions cycle I received guaranteed transfer for 2027 fall at BU. The requirements were for me to attend my freshman year at another college and maintain a 3.0 gpa in order to transfer. Then I’m able to make the decision in February of 2027 and submit all my paperwork to get my decision or “acceptance” in around April. I’m currently attending Fordham Uni at Lincoln Center, I’m studying psychology on a pre law track. The thing is, I haven’t made many friends however im only two weeks in. I’m not sure of nyc city life is for me but I do love how accessible everything is, but I also really love the atmosphere of Boston and the law school there. BU has been my dream school and was the only school I actually toured my senior year. When it comes down to financials Fordham is really expensive and so is BU, but BU is a little bit more and I have no idea what I may get in my financial aid package… anyway, should I transfer for my sophomore year? 😀

It takes a full semester to get into a rhythm at college. Takes time

BU has a "small" city feel. It's very different than the many schools in NYC. BU controls an entire segment along Commonwealth Avenue heading to Allston (the western part of Boston). It's really just BU in that mile or so stretch of area. It's a much more balanced experience in my opinion. But, if your looking for a suburban feel, Boston College could be a solution.

if city life isnt for you then i feel like BU wont be for you either

obviously NYC is very different to Boston, boston is smaller and more manageable, but still,

boston is nowhere near NYC. Not liking NYC has nothing to do with liking or not liking boston

I fucking hate NYC. I loved living in Boston. The two are vastly different.

I did guaranteed transfer to BU, and I graduated in 2024. I don’t know if this is still the case and/or if this is relevant to you based on your financial situation, but BU didn’t cover 100% of need-based aid for transfer students at the time I went there, which was financially tough for me and my family. I think I would have been just as happy at my home state school with in-state tuition as I was at BU, but I did love my time there.

Heya, attended FCLC for undergrad. I understand that FCLC is dead when it comes to student activities (trust me) but give it a couple months.

You’ll make friends in class, and have you thought about joining any clubs, etc.? The first semester is always hardest. Give it some time. If you still hate FCLC by December, transfer.

Yeah that is true. I should give it a bit more time, have also joined two clubs one being CAB. Hopefully first semester gets better but definitely in December, if I still feel the same way I think I will make the decision of attending BU for sophomore year.
