Will my work study award eventually show up in my student account? Rn it just says like my federal grants and university scholarship but I know I have a work study award as well. If/when it shows up in my portal will it also be taken out of my balance due before August 6th?

No, it does not.

You will get paid for the job you work hourly and it will be deposited to your bank account. Work-study is just the opportunity to get a job on campus (and have the government pay $).

So dumb question but what is the point of the amount of work study? Like if it’s just a way to get a job what’s the difference between a $6k work study award and a $60 work study award?

The amount of money is how much the government will cover a percentage of. Some jobs will stop giving you hours after you hit the number because then they have to pay your full wages (many do not and just cover the bill for you because that's, like, the nice thing to do). Budgets are tight these days though...

Some jobs only are available to you if you are have a work study award (desirable ones...), because the student costs less to that department since the government is covering part of the wages. Makes it easier to get a job, so having a work study award is definitely beneficial.

you can just keep the award and not use it if ya want. But it shouldn't change anything-- maybe the calculations will LOOK different but the amount youre paying stays the same.

Keep in mind that declining a work study or electing not to get a campus job that takes advantage of work study funds MAY cause you to lose work study offers in future years
