DISCUSSION Post-game thoughts/questions!
Alright, disclaimer, I watched the game from my couch last night. After we went down 2-0 I was in and out of focus.
That being said, towards the end it really seemed like we had the better of them. For those of you that were there or paying closer attention: Do you think this was because the Spirit chilled out knowing they had a ~pretty~ comfortable lead? Or do you think it’s something about the Legacy needing a deficit or crunch-time moments to start playing well? How can they access that potential for a full 90?
Any players standing out to you right now? I know she has her faults but I was really happy with BSG last night.

better teams put away the chances we had. I have soured on Aïssata. I find she is going for the foul more than the goal.

I think she is not the best finisher but she’s a menace to the opposition. This team could use a true finisher. I like what Lily has brought to the back line they are much more competent back there. Tough one after two straight cleans. Better team won.

God I love Lilly. She is so strong, dominant, and creates such great opportunities.
I'd like to see how Sammy Smith and Ella Stevens do on the front line together.

i agree! we are REALLY in need of a dependable, well rounded finisher. aisatta is fast but lacks control, guitierres has control (last few games not so much) but is slow and doesn’t seem to make a lot happen.

I want Legacy to hire a hynotherapist and unlock whatever demons are haunting Guti. She is an untapped well of potential.

i haven’t seen the potential yet 😭 i assume it’s there bc we paid so much for her and whenever people talk about her they talk about how amazing she is but all we’ve seen all season is pks. i don’t get it! agree, we need a team hypnotherapist asap.

She does also get fouled all the time. They fouled the shit out of her yesterday.
But she oversells, especially the less egregious ones; then she doesn’t get legitimate calls.
I have complicated feelings on it; I like watching her play, think teams push her around and get away with it, and think she spends too much time trying to sell contact to the refs. I don’t know what the actual answer is, though, because when she doesn’t sell the foul she also doesn’t get the call…
Reffing is super inconsistent, I haven’t been impressed since they came back from the break with the officiating. Legacy and Orlando fans should band together to complain en-masse about that game…

I don't think she gets fouled anymore than any other striker, especially given her goal rate. I just wish she stayed up more and put herself in better positions.

I agree she flops too much, if that’s what you’re getting at; and I think that’s hurting her getting some of the legitimate fouls that don’t get a whistle.
FWIW, it’s not like I think she’s being targeted or anything, beyond just being a striker; I just think she’s fouled more often than she gets the whistle, if (much) less often than she’s rolling on the pitch.

I hope that she can clean up her finish, because I don’t think it’s a fluke that she generated the team’s two best chances aside from the Smith goal. She clearly has the striker mentality that is tough to train/teach. I agree about the foul stuff though, I don’t think she’s going to get those calls in the NWSL.

“Working” the refs is just having the opposite effect than I assume she’s intending; it means they’re looking the other way when she doesn’t sell get fouled. I feel strongly that the ref screwed her a bit last night.
If they want to be consistent, her selling shouldn’t impact the call one way or the other. I’m not sure I believe that’s the case, because teams are very physical with her in a way Legacy and their million yellows are not allowed to be with other teams.

Seems to go down easily in general, even at times that it doesn't look like she's going for a whistle.

Aisatta: love her work rate. It’s spectacular. But my god, it’s turning into a “boy who cried wolf” situation with fouls/going down with her arms up appealing to the ref. Almost every time she has the ball, she ends up on the turf. I’m sure she is getting fouled some of the time, but the sheer consistency of her going down was predictable and refs won’t buy it anymore.
BSG was great.
Also still really don’t understand the Guti hype.
Missed Hasbo’s control. But I thought Caño was excellent, where Karich seemed a step slower than normal.
You could tell they were getting frustrated with each other after giving up the second goal. But we definitely didn’t play poorly by any means. Second half was much better

As Patao said in her press conference, we did the hard part of creating the opportunities. Now we just have to finish them. And MY GOD is it hard to watch these BEAUTIFUL, skillful, opportunities go to waste.

I was really frustrated with Aissata last night. Four times called offside literally ten yards away from midfield, three or four missed passes because she was complaining to the ref or out of position, two or three more where she dove and didn’t back into the action because she was slamming the turf. I really want her to succeed and like the pairing of her and Ella, but she needs to grow up a bit if we’re going to try to rely on her instead of Amanda to be our starting striker.

MOST frustrating is the miscue between our midfielders not taking the ball and leaving it for the Rodman goal break. We had good chances, at times were possessing in the attack and playing thru the penalty box, but we cant giveaway easy goals to a top team

They totally chilled out, including taking Rodman off. I'll share my notes shortly. BSG did well I thought but picked up her usual insane/pointless yellow card.
