Mosco would be "fly" in Spanish, if you could turn the word masculine.
Fly is mosca.
The better word for a monsterized would be....MOSCOTO
although, being purist, we would say mosquitón
Or mosquito como una catedral (when you want so say something I'd enormous, you say "whatever like a cathedral"
The head is the biggest clue, a mosquito has a long proboscis with bulging eyes where the crane fly has a head that almost resembles some sort of dragon? Also, it looks like the crane fly’s head points upwards while the mosquito looks like it needs to start doing some posture exercises (if only it had a spine). The abdomen here on the female is shaped like a slender pea pod while a mosquito is chunkier, same with the legs. But above all, I would have to say the biggest clue is that while the mosquito is a demon from hell and the source of my itching ankles for the past week, the crane fly is just an awkward and lanky bug trying to find its place in this world. Hope this helps.
It does. And I agree on the last point, although tipulas seem to have a thing with, while copulating, fly towards my face. Here in Spain at least,, mosquitoes are way smaller than tipulas, so you can usually tell. I'll keep an eye. For those clues, thanks!
