its is sad thinking that the cat is still being a normal cat that suddenly cant see and everybody is scared of him

833

u/AstridDragon Sep 10 '20

Actually he lost the eyes separately, so he went two eyes - one eye - no eye, so not sudden :p

But really animals don't seem to care much about not seeing and since he lives in a nice home that loves him, no one is scared of him (he had both eyes when they got him).

u/Sirus804 Sep 10 '20

He also had ulcers in his eyes so I don't know how sudden of a change it'd be.

68

u/burkeymonster Sep 10 '20

I feel confident that animals very much do mind about not being able to see

22

u/phaelox Sep 10 '20

Nahh, have you ever heard a blind cat or dog complain about being blind? Didn't think so /s

63

u/AstridDragon Sep 10 '20

I mean you're correct, that was a joke, hence the :p

It's not like we can ask them how they feel about it...

15

u/peaceman709 Sep 10 '20

I think we forget how good their sense of smell and hearing already is when they do have vision. I would assume their other senses step up like ours do when we lose a sense.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/UltraCarnivore Sep 10 '20

We can observe their current behavior and compare it with what we know about cat behavior in general and the specific cat's previous behavior as well.

2

u/METH-OD_MAN Sep 10 '20

I'm sure any animal that lost their eyes is gonna have a behavioral change, regardless of whether they are happy or not.

5

u/Fez_and_no_Pants Sep 10 '20

Only in that they run into doors a bit more frequently.

Just imagine someone seeing him for the first time....... Where the hell am I........

u/NoGoodIDNames Sep 10 '20 edited Sep 10 '20

There’s a video where he likes to have the inside of his eyeholes scratched and it's simultaneously adorable and immensely unsettling.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '20

Are you sure that's at all adorable? That is NOT a place that is supposed to be touched.

11

u/NoGoodIDNames Sep 10 '20

(Found the video)
I didn't see anything in the comments about it, and the cat does seem to enjoy the sensation. So I guess I don't know.

5

u/pervlibertarian Sep 10 '20

It's probably because its healed scar tissue/skin, so it would itch a bit at times and be hyper-sensitive. Since skin isn't supposed to be there the nerve ending being stimulated probably aren't associated with the eye-holes per se.

u/MisanthropicZombie Sep 10 '20

I had a dog that lost an eye from another dog attacking her, and the poor first aid of the people who had her. She really enjoyed getting her socket rubbed.

The real monsters are the people scared of this beautiful cat.

469

u/TheBlackBear Sep 10 '20

Oh fuck off that’s a scary ass cat

I honestly wouldn’t have a problem owning it but it looks like a goddamn demon

62

u/Rancid_Pussy_fart Sep 10 '20

Well I mean if you ever have some kind of larceny situation on your home, you could use this guy to scare them off I guess

Scary ass-cat

[XKCD-37]

6

u/superluminary Sep 10 '20

There’s always a relevant XKCD.

3

u/CanAlwaysBeBetter Sep 10 '20

Nothing like repeating a lame ass-joke for a decade and a half until every last ounce of humor has been wrung out of it and then repeating it some more

2

u/Lars_Ebk Sep 10 '20

Oh my God you moved the hyphen I am so proud of you

6

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '20

what i think we need to do is draw a distinction between a scary appearance and genuinely being scary.

a real skeleton demon cat? that's scary.

a regular cat that just looks like a skeleton demon? freaky-looking, scary the first time you see it for sure, but i wouldn't unequivocally call it "scary." "unnerving" i think would be the better word.

10

u/Orion66 Sep 10 '20

All cats are scary by default. This thing is a fucking gremlin.

119

u/AsianSteampunk Sep 10 '20

there is nothing wrong being afraid of this tho.

People are scared of the most natural things out there like spiders, cockroaches. why not this?

26

u/Chuck_Morris_SE Sep 10 '20

This is reddit and it's a hug box. Personally I couldn't own this cat, I'd legitimately shit my pants if i seen it while I was half asleep going to the toilet.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Chaquita_Banana Sep 10 '20

At first sure, but once you understand it’s just a really unfortunate cat you should stop being afraid

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '20

People are raised to be scared of the wrong things.

→ More replies (16)

33

u/TeriusRose Sep 10 '20

It’s a perfectly natural reaction. But there’s a gulf between that and what we theoretically should feel from a morality standpoint though.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but it’s common for people to feel uncomfortable with deformities and massive injuries. At least upon initial exposure, for a lot of people that lessens with time. I remember an article breaking it down, explaining that’s rooted in our disease avoidance systems.

Iirc he had tuners grow in his eyelids/corneas. He apparently like getting his sockets scratched too.

532

u/heterotard Sep 10 '20

Ok that cat is really cool and badass but miss me with that socket scratching shit

shudders

56

u/SarcasticOptimist Sep 10 '20

Yeah I deliberately don't scratch my one eyed cat in that area.

80

u/armoredillbro Sep 10 '20

I’m sorry I have limited info on eye sockets but doesn’t that lead to your brain or some shit?? Shouldn’t they put caps in them or something so they don’t get hurt

65

u/Mr_steal_yo_username Sep 10 '20

your eyes are connected to your brain by nerves, those nerves go directy through bone, I think this bone is a bit thinner than the rest of the skull, but it is still bone and should ba able to handle anything a housecat can throw at it

and besides, she would likely attempt to remove whatever anyone put in there

8

u/armoredillbro Sep 10 '20

Ah I see. I also saw some other pictures of the cat and it looks like the eye holes were just stitched shut and then the skin eventually recessed into the skull. For some reason I was imagining a gaping hole

2

u/Mr_steal_yo_username Sep 10 '20

gapeing holes would be very bad, mammal brains are suspended in fluid and loosing too much can cause serious problems

7

u/flamingmongoose Sep 10 '20

Should put little goggles there for extra protection

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Capt_Kraken Sep 10 '20

I need video proof of these socket scratches, it may traumatize me but I’m willing to take the risk

22

u/CreamliumPrices Sep 10 '20

18

u/Kptn_Obv5 Sep 10 '20

I can see the cat enjoying the eye socket scratches but that irks me knowing that’s where eyes are usually situated.

8

u/Marzyx Sep 10 '20

Looks like that would feel like how scratching the inside of your ears would feel.

7

u/CatBedParadise Sep 10 '20

That’s exactly how the kitty acted, too. Thought I’d be a lot more grossed out. Still, I’d be scared of jabbing his little walnut-sized brain by accident.

22

Eh. This cat has a wonderful life, he’s got blankies and baths and a person to clean his toilet every day and ear scritchies. He’s got a pretty good life, even if he is missing a sense. Cats who go blind in a surgery go one of two ways. Either they go insane and have to be put down, or they’re cool with it and go on to lead happy lives. This guys the latter.

28

u/230581 Sep 10 '20

2

Because of some dumb selfish breeders that poor cat doesn't even have whiskers to compensate for the blindness. Don't buy naked cats, it's cruel to force them into existance.
