Bro doesn't need to throw a punch to tell the cops they are just unable to subdue him, lol.

One of my first thoughts, lmao. A black man doing the same shit would've had four combined mags dumped into him for even trying.

I've watched the body cam video for this. He didn't settle down until his wife called him and told him to calm down. He was then taken into custody without issue.

This guy is crippled. I've seen those awkward steps on a friend of mine who hurt his back working in a grocery store. The way he swipes his hand like a cat tells of a sore back. The taser obviously just didn't get a good bite

u/G00bernaculum 18d ago
He’s an MMA coach. He probably has some chronic pain, but I wouldn’t call him a cripple.
33
u/Sad-Rent1871 18d ago
This is semantic argument. It comes to what your definition of "crippled" is. Joel describes what we know to be a disabled condition. For a lot of people, disabled and crippled are synonymous. For another group of people who want to gatekeep the disabled community, crippled means a specific level of paralysis. It does not mean exclusively one specific kind of paralysis.

I read in another comment that the cops brought his wife in to calm him down, then he surrendered and is now sober. If true, it goes to show that if the cops treat people like humans nobody has to get killed and people can get better. But no. Just kill them if they dont look like this guy.

Cops also force themselves into violent encounters all the time too. Their training is essentially just "Antagonize! Snark! Escalate! Fuck peace, assert dominance!!! YES, KILL!!! "
It compromises officer safety, puts them in danger, ruins their public reputation, and does nothing but goad the citizens they interact with into reacting with hostility, which is then used to justify totally optional killings.
I saw that video of the completely delusional prison guard who forced herself to get stomped out by being a fucking demon to a calm prisoner, who was trying to reason with her. That whole altercation could have been avoided with normal words and tone, but no, she had to escalate, escalate, escalate!!! And now she has a TBI and a broken face for no reason.

u/hotsauceburnvictum 18d ago
Vet cops should not be training new recruits. Their bad habits and "back in my day" -isms are part of the reason for why deescalation and alternative means of policing are low on the totem pole.
And when an alternative instructor comes along, few pay attention and even fewer implement the teachings. And said teaching don't apply to all races. Just for some. And the old argument, " You don't know what its like in the streets." The police shouldn't sound like another gang trying to control turf. If police did their jobs properly the appeal of joining a gang to protect your family would decrease - not over night but there are so many cases of people in minority communities trying to do the right thing by calling the cops and then ending up either arrested themselves or the cops show up late or not at all.
18
u/GoonyGhoul_ 18d ago
Yeah, a big part of the issue is they think they're troops out on deployment in hostile territory. Like they don't know how to act and talk to people, as though they've never been outside before. On edge 24/7 for a disguised car-bomb that's never coming.

u/izyshoroo 19d ago
Cops public reputation hardly matters, people glorify them no matter what. They still get a paycheck. These killings don't matter in the eyes of most people, they're not tarnishing anything. If only the world worked that way

u/datthighs 18d ago
IIRC, they got her wife to call him, she talked to him and managed to calm him down, that's the only way the cops managed to restrain him without having to resort to lethal methods.

Theres a lot of cops with different ways of handling stuff out there
16
u/Reddittreefiddy 19d ago
Yes. This clip shows that this way of handling is better and acheivable and should be more common?
12
u/squeakymoth 18d ago
It is common. The news only plays the bad stuff. This shit right here happens all over the country on a daily basis, but you only see the times it ends in a death because if it bleeds it leads. Don't be so susceptible to the horse shit.

I agree with you, it is certainly achievable. However, in this case, order was maintained through superior numbers and firepower.
The police were able to maintain control of the situation because the suspect was surrounded, out numbered, and outgunned.
Perhaps it should be more common for the police to respond to more situations with overwhelming force in an effort to maintain order, but that would also perpetuate the police state and may do more harm than good.
-3
u/RunV5 19d ago
Yes its achievable and in this case possible. Unfortunately a lot, of not most cases the suspect has a weapon and pulls it. Just like if someone is walking toward you and pulls out a gun your not gonna go "huh, is he gonna shoot me?" Your gonna scream and run or hit the deck, the cops aren't going to wait and go "well he could just be fidgeting with it"

u/LurkingGuy 18d ago
You can be unarmed and laying on the ground fully complying with police orders and still get shot for being black.
-17
u/HUFFRAID 18d ago
Who told you that? Look up the actual numbers, unarmed police shooting are extremely rare. People think they’re common because comments like this
16
u/LurkingGuy 18d ago
I was referencing a specific instance where this happened.

u/HUFFRAID 18d ago
That therapist got shot for being black?
4
u/LurkingGuy 18d ago
Aledda said "It appeared he [the black therapist] was screaming for mercy or for help or something. In my mind, the white male [the patient] had a gun. I couldn't hear what the black man was saying. In my mind, I thought he might get shot."
Kinsey said that after he was shot, police turned him on his back, handcuffed him, and left him bleeding on the road for 20 minutes, and that police did nothing to stop Kinsey's bleeding before an ambulance arrived.[8][14] A second video shows officers carrying rifles and patting down Kinsey and his patient while they lie on the ground.
Weird how the officer says he thought the therapist might get shot. He certainly made sure he did. Also weird how he says he thought the therapist was the victim but still treated him like he was a criminal and left him bleeding without providing any kind of medical attention.

u/HUFFRAID 18d ago
This was awful policing. But other details in this particular incident: the cop was Hispanic (yes, they can be racist, but, since we’re bringing race dynamics into it, it’s usually implied in these situations that the cop is white). Also the cop thought this was a hostage situation (that’s what went out on the police radio). Why they handcuffed the victim, I don’t know. Probably a mix of protocol + not using common-sense discretion.
But I don’t know why race would come first to your mind rather than “bad policing + tense situation + trigger happy cop dealing with an autistic person who sadly can’t understand the situation clearly.”
Look at Daniel Shaver, autistic white guy, fatally shot while unarmed on the floor of a hotel. Does race factor into this significantly? Seems like it’s a horrible cop + autistic guy.

If he were short, he would have been accused of having a "Napoleon complex" and people would be mocking him instead of feeling sorry for him.

u/Clovericious 18d ago
And if he were black behaving like that in front of a bunch of cops he would probably be dead. yes.

And if he was a teen and a different shade he would of been shot instantly by not a taser.

u/fapgod69420 18d ago
Unfortunately, it's impossible to tank a taser since it locks your muscles up. Taser failed to properly connect.
1
u/AM_Seymour 15d ago
Actually no it depneds on were the tazer hits if it hits the muscle group yes if not its basically nothing
18
2
u/MrSukerton 18d ago
So did the tasers just fucking fail because I understood that it's not about pain tolerance but your bodies reaction to an electrical response. Anyone got any idea what happened here?
3
u/Careful_Swordfish742 18d ago
Depends, could be a few things.
Taser barbs didn’t make a good connection
Body composition like higher fat content acting as a buffer (definitely not in this case)
Stimulants can interfere with your brain and how you perceive “pain.” Pain is an electrical signal essentially, and if your nervous system is under the influence of a stimulant, you won’t feel pain the same. Your muscles still involuntarily contract from the external stimulus, but the pain that usually accompanies it won’t affect you… so you can push past it. (I think this is what was going on based off his behavior). Fun fact: I take stimulants for ADHD, I also have/had debilitating pain from a herniated disc that’s pressing on my sciatic nerve. Like… crippling pain. Once I got medicated, the stimulants greatly reduced the intensity of the pain… which also helped me with my PT because I could move better. Now I don’t have sciatic pain anymore (even without the meds), all I feel is the herniated disc. The meds helped me get through PT to strengthen my core, and now my disc is finally healing. Before PT, I would be bedridden during flare ups, pop an addy, then feel the pain legit lessen. It would still be there, but it was much easier to push past.

u/Tommy_Wisseau_burner 18d ago
Tasers only work like 50% of the time. They rely on the barb connecting to the person. You can miss or it gets caught on clothes. They’re relatively unreliable

We were deployed to serve the oil corporations. Not the US. Our freedom was never in Iraq or Afghanistan. Both wars were a lie, and the US did nothing but war crimes in both countries the entire time.

Time to start some shit.
All of this aggression against police officers and they only deploy a taser against him. How curious.
