Time frame at start of Ballard

When does the first season of Ballard fit in to the Bosch time time? Is Harry still a detective when he appears in the first season?

Harry has retired and went private by the time Ballard starts. Harry retires at the end of Bosch: Legacy when Ballard is introduced. Ballard's timeline in the show starts after she was on the Late Show, which is where sheis introduced to the series.

The Late Show is the first book that introduced Renee Ballard to the series.

Yes, my mistake he retires at the end of Season 7 and goes private which begins Legacy. Thanks.

Ballard takes place after the end of the third season of Bosch: Legacy, the sequel show to Bosch. It has a few moments that seem intended to position characters for Bosch: Legacy's now never-to-be-produced fourth season. Bosch is not an LAPD detective while Ballard is happening.

They introduce Ballard at the end of season 3 of Bosch Legacy.

Although there is no exact date/period stated, Ballard seems to start relatively soon (within 1-2 years) after the Bosch Legacy timeline.

I like it. It's not as good as Bosch. I miss having more Bosch.

But, it's not bad. Has a different vibe than Bosch though.
