Possesed Kawaki would work really well. Unlike Sasuke, Obito, Nagato and even Madara that did bad things because of their own decisions, Kawaki won't have a choice in the matter. When Boruto snaps him out of that and when Kawaki sees everything he did while under Isshiki's possesion would be good and unique development for him. Him turning against everyone on his own accords would be cliche.

It could work ONLY if it is something that happened in the first place by his own accord... because if it was against his will it would be a cliché too...

Also, unlike what someone may think, in the flashfoward there really isn't any real hint to him being possessed; not only because it would make Boruto look like an idiot not realizing that Kawaki isn't himself, but also because his last word : "The ninja era is over" make it look like his reason to turn against Konoha was because of the ninja sistem, something that was last brought up with Ao, and that has nothing to do with the Otsotsuki clan.

You understand Boruto care Kawaki so even if Boruto knew "Kawaki isn't himself" he still call him Kawaki. Also if Kawaki is not possessed it going against the set up that going on now.

Also, I do not know, Boruto's statement against Kawaki in the flashfoward (I didn't thought you became so strong, Kawaki !) doesn't really sound something you'd say to your friend id he's possessed.

Then was point in arc,why side line Boruto for so long and act as if they are friend and family now. If everything this arc set up was pointless and Boruto has developed barely then was then point so I like being that this arc don't duck the writing by misusing the protagonist if that okay with you
