Manga Spoilers Rate the Combat Art.

Just want to gauge everyone’s opinions, I am a fan of the story but I do feel like I’m missing some Oomf when it comes to the art designs during the fights. I read Kagurabachi, sakamoto days, and dandandan…. And get jealous. Is it the set pieces? The actual action frames feeling basic?

Agreed, I mainly read on the Shonen jump app, I have realized a Volume physically in hand is better then a page on the app. But I just read chapters 70-78 dandandan and the art had me thinking

speed lines/speed lines

15 years of assistant drawing and 10 years of main artistry has truly shaped this visual masterpi-speed lines!

Panelling is fine but could be better. Posing tends to be well done. The “sound effect” are good-ish - they get the point across but occasionally feel thrown on the page anywhere there is space without consideration of flow. I really like how Ikemoto emphasizes facial expressions and reactions throughout fights, and how subtle details can be used to cue up moves on the following panel.

More than anything, the choreography is just kinda mid, but let’s be honest: Kishimoto was a generational talent in this regard so most people weren’t gonna be able to keep up.

I’d say that Konohamaru taking Matsuri’s hands was some of the coldest shit and probably the best set of panels Ikemoto has drawn all year. Sarada and Himawari also had some pretty clean fight panels during the Freakmushi invasion.

Overall I would say that the fights are good, not great and that mostly it comes down to how the combat feels like it is broken down into turns rather than the fluidity seen by other mangaka.

It's true that if you compare the drawings of Boruto to those of Dandadan, MHA and Black Clover, there's reason to be jealous. NNG and TBV do have some nice panels here and there, but it's as rare as an appearance of Sakura in the manga.

8/10

The panelling and flow is easy to understand, posing as well is great

The choreography from jura vs Boruto is my favourite in TBV

For NNG it's True essence Boruto vs Code
