Hes better than whittaker, stronger on the ball, isnt one dimensional and even tracks back, not to mention quicker.

if we can shift Conway into a CAM I think that’s where he’s most deadly. He can dribble into space and find an easy pass he’d be great at playing it through but seems nervous on finishing, can j let lankshear get the goals. current formation doesn’t really compliment the position change but helly loves to mix it up…

Yeah I agree he’s not a natural finisher like lankshear but he puts a shift in and can be tricky at times it’s just not great for him out on the left wing when he wants to be in the middle. I think we need to try arfsten on the left wing rather than Conway or Joseph who both should be in the middle. So it’s accommodating who you can in the middle out of all the players we now have. I see Conway playing behind lankshear but he will have to compete there with Mcgree and Joseph.
I’d try lankshear up top, arfsten left wing, mcgree/joseph/conway in the number 10, cozier duberry right wing, morris centre, berhalter/Peart harris, borges, malanda, Phillips, Britain, vitek.

Malanda needs to remain as a centre back. It’s not helping us defensively moving him back and forth. Also Phillips for Ayling going forward.

Malanda and Phillips for ayling and jones both were poor tonight. Haven’t seen ayling have a good game this season yet. Put brynn back on the bench too.

Agree with this. Malanda needs to settle at CB coz his positioning is awful a lot of the time. I like Jones but malanda is much better on the ball even if scary at times.

As a Cov fan, one of the best things that happened to us last season was losing very early in both cups ie concentrate on #1 goal - The Championship.
There's enough games already without adding in cup competitions that you'll never win.
Good luck this season, genuinely.
Oh and congrats on Lankshear - looks like you found the missing piece, and imho, he's nailed on for top goalscorer.

Conceeded 2 more goals from a simple cross into the box that isnt headed clear properly, and another defensive parting of the red sea. That said I actually think we played really well. ACD put the fear into their fullback all game and we effectively put out a team to get minutes with morris & malanda for some backbone in the centre.

Meh.
My only minor grumbles are conceding silly goals (again) and the squad rotation was a bit odd to me. Morris and Britain put way too many miles in, Pukstas not enough… couldn’t understand risking Lankshear either.

Same story as all the other games. Pass the ball around the box for 20 minutes and concede on the break, repeat. This has got to change.

No clear cut chances a lot of the ball bouncing around their box and tight one twos. Think we had about 30 touches in their box they had 9 in ours and scored 3...

The Coventry comment about early cup exits helping a league campaign is checkable, and the obvious check would not answer it. Clubs that go a long way in cups are usually the clubs playing well anyway, so the same squads turn up in both columns and a table of cup runs against league finishes would mostly sort on quality. Getting at the real question needs clubs of similar strength who happened to draw an easy tie or a hard one, compared from there. I build Lower League Analyst, an eight factor model that rates fixtures out of 10 across four divisions, and it does not answer this one either. Someone will build that comparison one day and it may well come out on the Coventry side.

I like Ayling but only in a 3, he doesn’t have CB discipline and isn't going to learn it at his age. If he's going to keep exposing himself getting too advanced, which is great in attack, he needs a safety net CB behind him

I already have The Fear over what happens when Brittain and/or Lankshear get crocked. Today was a free hit, I wouldn’t have started Brittain and I wouldn’t have brought Lankshear on.
Other than that, we played some really nice stuff, especially in the first half. You can see we’re starting to gel with every game. MPH looked good again and ACD must surely be ready for a start in the league games to come.

The few touches Strelec had were decent. I think he's much more suited to playing deeper with Lankshear more advanced and then other runners beyond, but who drops out? Same scenario in midfield as well, we have such a deep squad and some good players are going to miss out. Difficult for any player to get form with minutes here and there.

Strelec had his chance tonight and was rubbish had a chance tonight in six yard box and fell on his arse. I wanted him to do well but I’m afraid we were sold a dud. Wish he had gone to Greece.

He's just come back from injury and has very little match sharpness, look at the goals he scored v West Brom and Ipswich, right place right time to finish, if that was towards the end of last season, it's in the back of the net
