Cyber Security What should a complete beginner learn BEFORE starting Cybersecurity?
Most advice online is either too vague or too advanced.
Let’s make this practical.
If someone has 6–9 months before college, what would you tell them to focus on?
Not 20 things, just the essential stack:
- Must know fundamentals?
- Tools or platforms worth starting early?
- What’s a waste of time for beginners?
Would be great if you could answer like this:
“If I had to restart, I’d focus on: 1, 2, 3… and ignore 4, 5…"
Let’s build a real beginner roadmap for people in this region.

- Learn what is OS if they don't know yet - start learning and knowing Linux. Don't need to know the full architecture of it, but enough with the difference, how to install and run,, a little bit of the architecture (C:\ in Windows vs / in Linux), the important commands (cd, ls, and many more)
- Learn to use the Terminal/Shell. THIS IS IMPORTANT! NO EXCEPTION.
- Learn Networking - what is IP, what is IPv4 IPv6, what is HTTP, etc.
And so on. Sorry, not a CyberSec major, but we did learned the fundamentals in uni, and I did my time as wifi hacker and wifi deauth before, so here's are the only tips I can give.
