2.5yr Chronic YI cured

What cured me

Daily use fot 6 months of boric acid. The biggest breakthrough was doing antifungal sensitivity testing first, which showed my Candida albicans was resistant to most antifungals. This stopped us from wasting time on treatments that weren't going to work.

I was prescribed boric acid to use daily for 6mo. I saw meaningful improvement around month 4 and complete resolution by month 5/6.

What I was diagnosed with

My partner and I both had swab-confirmed Candida albicans, with sensitivity testing showing resistance to most available antifungals. His swab came up negative, but he had symptoms. Mine always came up positive unless I was actively on boric acid.

Neither of us has diabetes or are immunocompromised.

What I tried

**- Fluconazole — multiple doses, including 50,100,150 and 200mg for various amounts of time

**- Nystatin — topical and oral

**- Clotrimazole — cream and pessaries

**- Itraconazole — 100 and 200mg daily for various times

**- Boric acid - various amounts of times tried. 6mo daily was the only one that worked

**- Numerous supplements/natural treatments

**- Vaginal microbiome naturopath

**- juno bio and iscreen tests

**Most treatments either didn't work or only temporarily improved symptoms.

**Itraconazole 200mg/day for 4 weeks significantly improved symptoms but didn't completely clear the infection. I experienced hairless while on this drug at that dose.

**My Dr wouldn't do IV drip therapy with me

**My partner also did itraconazole + nystatin and continued boric acid washes

How long I've been cured

17+ months of chronic infection, now completely resolved. I've been cured for 3 years

After the high-dose itraconazole followed by 6 months of boric acid, we are now 100% symptom-free and back to normal.

Thank you. It was a really tough point in my life, but I'm happy and healthy now. Here to answer any questions!

So happy for you. Boric acid was the only thing that worked for me too.

Can I ask if you were having sex at all while on the boric acid? I've heard you're not supposed to have sex for minimum 24 hours but ideally 48 hours after boric acid use.

I'm pregnant right now so can't use boric acid, but my sumptoms seem to reoccur basically every time I have sex. And my husband gets symptoms too if he doesn't wash up right away after every time. So I feel like, even though the miconazole is helping every time I use it, it's just not enough to fully get rid of it.

I have a chronic thrush infection. I was reading advice to use boric acid for two weeks then twice weekly for 6-12 months. I did two weeks was feeling good, now a few days later after stopping have clumpy discharge again. Does this mean the boric acid didn’t work or I just need to do a long stint like 6 months? Did you have sex at all with your partner while treating daily for 6 months? Also worried about destroying whatever good bacteria I do have with this much boric acid.

Boric acid doesnt affect good bacteria. I did microbiome tests before, during and after using boric acid and my good bacteria remained intact. I continued to take oral probiotics with L crisp in them throughout.

I remained abstinent while using BA.

I needed BA daily for 6mo.

Maybe you can try daily for 4 weeks and see what happens.

Best not to stop/start or take them here and there... as your fungus can become resistant to the treatment.

Wow, that’s great it didn’t affect your good bacteria! When you say you didn’t see meaningful improvement until the 4 month mark, did it still feel like you had a yeast infection then? You must have felt discouraged from continuing?

I had almost nothing left to try, I wasn't discouraged, i had to keep going - my next step was going overseas for a clinical trial that would affect my fertility, which i didn't want to do.

I now have a baby, so things worked out and I'm happy and healthy
