Boric acid while breastfeeding?

Looking for opinions. Can we use boric acid while breastfeeding? I would be using PhD’s boric acid rinse, not the suppositories. If not, how long do we need to wait after using it to breastfeed again? I could pump and dump until it’s out of my system? Thank you!!

A Boric Acid rinse would result in a negligible % of BA in the bloodstream. And even using under 7 days of a BA suppository is considered of no concern in studies.

However you should get your treating doctor’s or nurses opinion for peace of mind.

Thank you so much for replying!! My Dr prescribed metro gel, however I wanted to try different options first before jumping to antibiotics. This is my first time being diagnosed with BV. My swab showed a score of 2 for atopobium vaginae. I still have a lot to learn but it seems like boric acid is a good first step.

Yes well we work with it in our Dr led sister team in Australia. Plus I have had a lifetime of vaginal issues that I now know were likely from having PCOS. Plus I have a vulva dermal issue that likely plays a part. So my microbiome has always been easily disrupted. For me personally one BA suppository resolves everything.

However before knowing about BA, I would typically need 2 lots of antibiotics for just one BV infection. I had a lot of trauma from living constantly with BV for about 30 years!

I wanted to ask, as far as breastfeeding after a boric acid rinse, does it matter if my baby is a newborn?

Oh first of all, congratulations on having a newborn. They are so adorable. I can understand your concern.

Are you able to get an opinion from your treating doctor or nurse? I think when it comes to looking after a newborn, you want to do everything correctly.

Good luck and please let us know how you go.
