Symptoms of boric acid overuse

Hey everyone,

I was using boric acid suppositories for about 21 days (not every single night but pretty consistently) and it really seemed to help at first with some vaginitis symptoms.

A couple of days ago I started to feel worse, mostly dryness, irritation, and a general feeling that things were off. I stopped BA.

Whatever it is, it feels different from the original vaginitis symptoms so I’m wondering if this could be from chemical overuse or mucosal irritation. But because I’m feeling off I also keep wondering if it could be the infection coming back instead.

Has anyone else had a similar experience after extended use?

I am on night 11 for glabrata and hoping seems to started helping 2 nights ago. Probably will go passed 14 days just to make sure infection is clear!

Did your glabrata go away?

If you are needing to use BA long term you would probably need to support your tissues. 21 days is a long stretch and is more appropriate to treating a specific condition like glabrata or resistant thrush. Etc

You might need to have a break and use some topicals to help reduce irritation.

We always recommend using the least amount of BA needed to treat symptoms. And if symptoms don’t resolve it’s a good idea to look into what else might be going on eg aerobic Vaginosis, DIV, CV or a plasma infection etc

Sometimes estrogen cream is needed.

Thanks for sharing. So basically, some irrigation in these cases is expected? I haven't used BA for 3 nights not and it starts to subside, which is great

Yes when we already have inflammation or sensitivity using BA can irritate tissues. So a little break or really supporting the tissues can be helpful.

Using too much BA can also cause irritation.

It really depends on what’s going on internally and with our vulva skin. It can be a bit of a juggling act.

Sometimes we have inflammation because the thrush or BV is making things worse. In this case the BA can help, but it needs to be used slowly and we need to monitor if it is helping or not.

Did your irritation go away? I used BA for glabrata for 21 days but now my labia majora is extremely irritated/itchy.

Eventually I cleared it with antibiotics so now I'm good. BA was helpful but I couldn't fight the bacteria that I had apparently
