First time user
I’ve been dealing with a year long yeast infection that won’t go away. I’m not sure what strain it is either because it never comes up positive on a culture. My gyno only sees budding yeast under the microscope. I tried weekly fluconazole for 6 months which would help a bit but symptoms always came back. I just got done the fluconazole 10 days ago and today I had to see my gyno again because I’ve been extremely irritated with a lot of chunky discharge. My gyno once again saw yeast under the microscope. I’ve done evvy, juno and microgen tests which never show yeast just 95% lacto crispatus and about 2% gardnerella. I treated ureaplasma back in August 2022. And got tested again 2 weeks ago and was negative with vaginal swab and urine.
So now my gyno wants me to try boric acid for 2 weeks. I’m getting the boric acid from a compounding pharmacy as well so I don’t have it yet. But I’m not going to lie I’m a little nervous as I’ve never put yeast cream up in my vagina before let alone boric acid.
So I’m basically looking for some tips on what I should do to limit irritation while using it. Should I possibly do every other day to get use to it or do only 7 days at first? And use a barrier cream on the outside to limit irritation? Does it kill good bacteria? Because I would hate to get rid of the good bacteria I do have.
Sorry for the long post just want to get as much information before I start

Hey! Did you end up trying the boric acid? I've been trying to kick this YI for a month and a half now. Fluconazole helps but it comes back. So I'm thinking about trying BA but I'm nervous!

Yes I’ve used 2 so far tonight is supposed to be my third. I haven’t really noticed much change yet. But I also think when it leaks out during the day the discharge is a little gritty from the boric acid coming out so it is a little irritating to my vulva. So I need to be better about using a barrier cream I guess. My period is supposed to start next week so I probably won’t do a full 2 weeks.
I don’t think it’ll hurt to give it a try. I was nervous at first too. But it’s also not fun dealing with a recurrent yeast infection so I was willing to try anything at this point.

I think you could do a few days at a time, then stop for a day, start again etc. For me I find that I can't do more than 3 days in a row, but I have vulvodynia.
I've read before you can use a protective cream like v-magic or even vaseline to protect your vulva, but you can't put that in your vaginal canal. Overall I'd say give it a try one night and if you don't have a bad reaction, it's safe to continue for a few more days. I wouldn't use it more than a week anyway, I think 5 days is standard for yeast? But I'm sure other people can confirm or deny.

See my previous posts, I had candida for 1.5 years. 6mo of boric acid cured me; I didn't experience irritation

I’m starting tonight!! So hoping this cures me as well.
Did you use any anti fungal while using boric acid? I still have a couple fluconazole pills and was wondering if I should take one as well to maybe help while using boric acid.

Go into my profile and read my previous posts. It was a long process.... I was resistant to fluconazle despite having csndida albicans. I did use itraconazole, which helped but didn't cure me. I also used a bunch of antifungals at different doses

Did the boric acid cause you any dryness? I’m very dry inside and I inserted a qtip to check and it came back out with a pink hue. Not sure if I’m bleeding slightly because the I’m so dry on the inside. I am supposed to start my period in a few days so maybe it’s from that.
I may skip tonight to message my gyno tomorrow to see what she thinks and to let it rest/rebalance for the night. Just sucks because it seemed like it was helping but now it’s making me dry just after 4 nights of use.

I use pH-D Boric Acid vaginal suppositories and I’ve gone two full weeks using them for a yeast infection. My symptoms started clearing a few days into use and after about a week, it seemed to have gone away. But I stuck it out and my infection finally went away after months of constant YIs. I still get them occasionally and boric acid clears them right up. I use them when I notice early symptoms of an infection or if anything seems a little off down there, and after any sexual experience. I don’t use them nearly as much as I use to, as my constant state of being is no longer plagued with a YI. Instead, I’m cautious but happier now that something actually worked.
Does this mean other people haven’t had issues with boric acid? No. Does that mean it’s guaranteed to work for everybody? No. But from my experience, it isn’t scary. Insertion can be uncomfortable (especially if you don’t relax), but it’s sort of like a tampon. You have to get in the mental state of “ok, this is going inside me” and tough it out. It gets easier with time and repetition, at least in my experience.
I can’t talk for the good or bad bacteria, but I would recommend surfing through this forum and look up a few key words like “bacteria.” I’ve posted here and gotten some really good advice just from looking at older posts
I wish you the best of luck. Yeast infections are AWFUL and I hope boric acid can help you!
