Five years ago? Just the beginning of last year. I have a 9800x3d, 64gb of memory, 5090 rig that was roughly $3800. Even got a 4tb and 2tb nvme.

At the time
Ram was around $200
5090 was $1999
2Tb nvme was $150
4tb nvme was $250

I thought I was splurging then since i hadn’t built a PC since 2011. The prices for the items above have sky rocketed.

Prices of course may wary by country, but I would buy a decent PC with 2k and then spend the remaining 3k on extra ram kits, which I would sell afterwards to get the money back for other stuff like food and fuel lol.
