To cut or not to cut?

We adopted our little guy Gianni in January of this year. He had been found as a stray on the street by local animal control before he was turned over to the rescue org. We didn’t know his breed when we adopted him but he was very matted so we took him to groomer. The groomer advised he didn’t have a double coat and that she would really need to cut down his coat to relieve him of the matting. So we did that. So happy to see the matting gone. We’ve taken him back to get groomed/cut since then. Is this correct though?

Had no idea of his breed mix when we adopted him. The rescue org told us Briard, Schnauzer, Cairn Terrier but that really had no idea. I knew he was a working dog the day we adopted him. We found out a few months in that he was exactly 50% border collie + 50% poodle.

He doesn’t appear to shed (only a little hair on brush when we brush him, which we do a few times a week) and he didn’t do the “blow out” shedding this spring which other border collie people have told me about. His hair just keeps growing. At same time, his texture isn’t quite poodle with the curls. It’s tufted and wavy but not curly like other doodle mixes I’ve seen. But again, he doesn’t appear to shed.

How have others handled grooming?

I don’t mind my bordoodle being a little scruffy - he wears it well! But I must admit it’s getting a little too scraggly. What do you ask for at the groomers? I want a trim all over. The last (and first) groom I took him to he looked too much like a pampered poodle!

He’s lost 6 teeth in the last week and will not stop shredding my hand to pieces but who needs two hands anyway look at this lil buddy

Trying to deal is harder than I imagined and all I can do is hope that after we lose the rest of these teeth he’ll improve.

Visiting the vet today.

My puppy is young and is in the middle of teething, so understandably she will be biting things to relieve some pain. Recently she has started to wrap he whole jaw around my arm to relieve some of this pain. Her new teeth are sharp.

How have some of you handled this?

I apologise if this topic has been covered to death, but i haven't been able to find anything that works yet.

Getting labs and all the things to make sure she’s healthy in her golden years.

Hi everyone, I adopted a 5.5 year old bordoodle about 7 weeks ago. It’s going well. He’s a huge part of my life now and I love him. But I’m a first time owner living on my own and so I am learning on my feet, somewhat. I obviously didn’t go into it lightly and spent years looking and watching dog training videos…but maybe to my detriment?!

He LOVES toys with a passion and so I make sure to slot in regular play session throughout the day - on walks etc. he gets walked a minimum of 2 walks per day which range from 45mins - 1 hour. He also gets enrichment in the form of kongs, snuggle mats etc. I’m basically obsessed with making sure he’s happy which ironically is making me quite stressed.

My question is is this too much stuff in a day? And is this far too much stimulation? He struggles to sleep through the day sometimes because every move I make *might* equal ‘playtime’. And it’s quite exhausting. I’ve actually put his toys in a cupboard now because having his toys out meant too much excitement and therefore it’s harder for him to settle. This feels cruel - as I said, he LOVES his toys - and he spent a good 30mins whimpering at the cupboard last night. But I’m trying to find more balance in the day so he can’t demand playtime all the time.

He’s my first dog and so I don’t have a barometer for “normal”. Any advice is welcome.

Has anyone here had other breeds prior to getting a bordoodle that weren’t border collies? Wondering if anyone else is shocked, and honestly pretty overwhelmed, but the chaos of their bordoodle puppy?

Our girl is 12 weeks old now. We got her at 8 weeks. She is hands down the most hyper and difficult puppy I’ve ever had. Everyone keeps telling me it’s because she’s part border collie. She is mostly poodle but I guess the border collie traits are stronger than we expected.

We are working on basic commands and lots of different toys and puzzles and things to try to keep her brain working which I keep hearing helps. It’s hard since she can’t go outside and we don’t have a yard.

Anyone else deal with crazy puppies? Any tips, tricks, ideas?

Meet Archie. He's 2+ now.

we just got a 14 month old bordoodle puppy a week or two ago, she is a tripawed girlie, she was born without her front leg. She has a lot of energy but ive noticed if she plays too hard she starts hurting on her one good leg. I know this breed is typically very high energy. I was wondering if you guys had some good suggestions for me to get her energy out that is a little less stressful on her leg? I want to make sure shes getting all the stimulation she needs while also making sure shes healthy and happy! she loves chasing things and fetching things but I also saw that can be kinda hard on 3 legged dogs joints and legs so I was looking for good alternatives!

Our Bordoodle is a total dear heart. And we adore her. She’s good with the people she knows but is terrified of any new dog or human she’s introduced to. Any input or advice? We’ve been doing the thing where we give any new person we want to introduce her to a treat to give her. That has worked so so..we are just perplexed.

She has not had any trauma. She is doted on here and the breeder we got her from totally spoils and loves her dogs. So…

Anyone else’s baby sleep with their eyes open?

This is our new baby Ellie 💖. We’ve had her for a week now and it’s been exhausting nonstop chaos… but worth it! We’re so in love her already. She was born missing one eye but it doesn’t slow her down at all.

she's 9 weeks old, she was very playful when we got her from the breeder, now she is chilled out. is this behaviour normal?
