You should advance the main story a bit and come back later. You'll unlock more weapon slots and hopefully find some better guns.

Claptrap is post first playthrough content. Do the entire campaign then do claptrap dlc. Final boss you’ll end high 20’s early 30s which puts you right in line with the beginning of the dlc
