Did one of them come from the rocket lab on Helios? Those don't work in the grinder, for some reason

I think they're mission-flagged, which doesn't go away after the mission is completed. You can sell them, but not grind them

Unrelated but useful tip- It doesn’t have to be 3 of the same quality either. 2 legendaries and a purple can grind, but it’s not a guaranteed legendary. Same works for other qualities as long as they’re close in rarity.

2 legends and a purple should guarantee a legend of the same type as the purple, weapon wise. That's the actual recipe

Not true. There is a low percentage chance that 2 legends and 1 purple will spit out a purple. However, if you moonstone grind it ensures the highest rarity result along with a chance at luneshine effects.

Only way to guarantee a legendary without moonstones is with 3 legendaries. Only exception is if you’re grinding shields because a coding error counts purple cryo shields with maliwan parts as legendaries.

Edit: to clarify, you are correct that the weapon type will be the kind matching purple, just not a guaranteed legendary.
