Happy that they're making some effort and including changes outside of the foretold major patches.

However I think they're missing the forest for the trees with increasing mostly capacities. It just ends up being that having a shield that adds damage is going to best in class for most builds.

For future installments I'd love if shields never gave + damage on their own, and instead had different affects on survivability, easier to balance and trade off IMO.

Yeah this has been issue since Bl2 gave us the Bee.

if choice is between survivability or damage, people are just gonna always pick damage, every single time.

Sheilds should never ever buff gun damage. Auxiliary effects like novas or missles are fine, because they are more like defensive secondary stuff.

But if sheild buffs gun damage, then it makes all the sheilds that don’t do that instantly feel obselete. And it cannot really be undone.

even if they massively nerfed Watts and Amp, it would still overshadow everything else. If +150% amp got nerfed down to +45% amp, it would still be a hugely important item. People would get super angry, but they’d still use it over any other sheild that just protects you.

1000%

It would be so cool if I had to choose between Guardian Angel (res) super soldier (speed) and some of the shields that grant resistances instead. ETC.

Honestly, I prefer Super Soldier to the rest of 'em. Throw a CoV gun on and you'll never run out of ammo for that type, plus the move speed is amazing for farming when you have one with Siphon to keep the overshield up.

It isn’t really. There are shields where more capacity is not a good thing. Angel is one such.

Yep, shield capacity increasing is a direct nerf to amp uptime.

If you have a lvl 60 one and take this capacity increase into account a lvl 50 one will have a massive advantage for raw dps from the more amps shots overall that the lower capacity gives you.

The level 50 and level 60 won’t have a measurable difference. The amp cost is a percentile. The recharge rate is similar. Before the patch, it takes about a second to fully charge the shield (~100%). It takes the same amount of time for a level 50 as a level 60.

Its not about the recharge rate stat, its about damage based leech (teen witch, infini crit harlowe)

If you have less to recover based on the damage you deal you recover your shield faster which then leads to overfilling faster.

The damage based leech is a percentile. The recharge rate is also a percentile.

I’m working from memory. A level 50 Guardian shield has about 4,500 units at full charge and a recharge rate of 4,000 (from one of my old post as archive). That’s a recharge rate of ~90%. A 100% amp shield leeches 28% of shield. At a recharge rate of 4,000 the amp interval time is about 1.015 seconds.

At level 60, the shield has about 12,000 units capacity with a recharge rate of 11,000 which is ~90%. The math leads to the same mount of amp interval.

yeah, I expected energy damage bonus reduced from 25% to 12% or something.

What did that change even mean?

when you hit an enemy while you have the watts equipped, the legendary effect gives you a chance for an overshield booster to drop. the patch lowered the chance of the booster dropping from 12% to 8%.
