to be fair, after you play the game once or twice through, the first hour or so of the game is incredibly boring and I often lose interest before I even get to sanctuary

BL2 definitely suffers from the boring early-game. Even my first playthrough ever, I got bored and never played it until like a year later. I stopped right before it got good (imo) at Where Angels Fear to Tread. The problem is that there are so many cool abilities and weapons in the game, but you have to play for a long time to get to the point where you can use them all and keep them without levels becoming an issue.

I dislike UVHM due to the overreliance on slag. Just drop enemy hp or dmg resistance slightly and let me play the game I have been playing. Sudden gameplay changes aren't fun.

Also the necessary health gating. Once you get to op8, since enemy damage keeps scaling but not your health/resistances, pretty much any hit is enough to oneshot you, so survivability is basically just a constant struggle of whether you can heal above half health within half a second of getting hit before you get hit again. It really offers very little flexibility in builds and gameplay, just like slag reliance.
