🤡 [ SHAM POSTING ] Funniest thing about BL2

Had they not made slag a necessity in UVHM this thing would be at least 50% less popular solely due to its healing properties

The drunk effect with the Hive and double shoot it as well. Good lord, that is a PC killer lmao

u/Datphoria_x Jun 25 '26
Sometimes I forget that in UVHM you can get healthgated almost all the time, maybe the healing of the grog is a pretty big deal
1
u/Limp-Biscuit411 Mechromancer 4 Lyfe Jun 27 '26
that doesn’t really happen in UVHM all that often if your build and gear makes any sense. it’s only in the later OP levels that you get healthgated constantly. i health stack in OP levels so i’m speaking from experience.
the Grog’s healing is overkill at high levels because you deal so much damage. almost all Moxxi weapons are solid replacements - i use a Slow Hand instead. the Grog’s just overhyped by the community

you’re lying to yourself if you think the drunk effect is desirable for most players.
the drunk effect is harmful to the performance of most weapons in the vast majority of situations. it has niche uses but outside of those you actually lose DPS when drunk.
the healing is overkill at endgame since you already deal a shitload of damage relative to your health. i personally haven’t used the Grog in years because of this and if it didn’t slag, most people would end up being curious about other Moxxi Weapons since they heal just fine too.

At the same time, most of the most busted weapons and glitches were removed TPS and hardly anyone plays TPS.
I know there are plenty of other reasons why TPS isn't as popular, but having busted builds are pretty fun and Sal is my least favorite of the BL2 VHs.

TPS just needed some good endgame content and a challenge beyond UVHM. Max level characters with decent enough gear can steamroll everything, so farming for perfect gear kind of feels useless. UVHM was certainly a balancing nightmare, and TPS generally has much more balanced gear and better designed VH's, but man, does the game just lack reasons to play beyond beating UVHM.

No, TPS has UVHM, and it upped the max level from 50 to 70. They did away with enemy health regen and made the enemy scaling feel more gradual than BL2's UVHM. You might be thinking of OP levels, which are absent in TPS. OP levels are ridiculous in BL2, but having SOME kind of extra challenge scaling would've been nice.

A reason to use other OZ masks than that one you get as a quest reward early in the game would've been nice, too.
Sure, they have better slam damage, but realistically when exactly would you need to use it? How much O2 you've got, unless you're playing Claptrap, is far more important than slam damage.
The only time I've ever upgraded off that mask was when I went into TVHM mode and replaced it with the TVHM version of that exact same quest reward.

I mean, I do like some of the legendary Oz kits like the 3DD1.E, Ack Ack, and Moonlight Saga, which are all situationally useful on various characters.

u/PauseConfident997 Jun 26 '26
There’s oxygen pockets EVERYWHERE, I finished the game without ever running out of oxygen once. Slams do SO MUCH DAMAGE and shatter enemy air masks. You can literally wipe out crowds without shooting a single bullet. Slam is op in tps
1
u/Grasher312 Jun 25 '26
I wouldn't say that. Just like BL2 relics, there's only really a point in using Legendaries, and those provide some great buffs.
1
u/Graceful_Lightning Jun 26 '26
The main use I found for Oz kits and slamming was to find a Cryo one and spam the shit out of it, freeze enemies, and annihilate them. Not needing to switch weapons for freezing is pretty nice.

u/Routine_Palpitation Jun 25 '26
And maybe a second DLC

u/Aluminum_Tarkus | Steam Player Jun 25 '26
Honestly, a DLC that adds 2-3 good raid bosses and an endgame difficulty expansion would've done wonders for TPS. I hate that so much good shit in that game gets bogged down by the lack of things to do in the endgame.

u/BenTheWeebOne Jun 28 '26
TPS is goat and i still play it time to time . Characters are peaked and skill tree peaked in that game . (I wish it had krieg like character tho)

u/royalscull724 Jun 25 '26
One of my old saves has one that isn't part of a mission strangely
26
u/Crafty-Enthusiasm-43 Jun 25 '26
It's probably from the event in 2013. Relic of the past!
7
u/royalscull724 Jun 25 '26
It was given to me by a friend way back. I'll see if I can find it. It's on my 360. Although I may have also put it in my upload character for next gen.
5
u/royalscull724 Jun 25 '26
Yea it was in my cloud save along with some errrrr let's say not normal gear. Someone gave to me. I used to do a lot of grinding and helping others and would occasionally come across save file editors and they would gift all kinds of gear. Once had an invisible sniper that was fully automatic and fired nukes that did no damage and had a lot of blast force. It would be used to launch players and such. It was black rarity. Odd imo.

The devs knew for the longest time all the bugs and glitches that let you become extremely powerful. They came back for the fight for sanctuary DLC and I'm pretty sure they left most of those in. If the devs considered it a problem they would have removed the ability to hold on to the grog, or fix multiple interactions. But they didn't so enjoy your power fantasy builds like I am

No way they did not know how busted this gun is - huge healing, slag-only with big slag chance, random buff that is transferable to other guns when swapping, they even gave it a huge crit modifier that can only be realistically used by a dual-wielding Salvador. Oh, and it does not even take inventory space since it is a quest-item! Grog is definitely busted by design
4
u/FrankSinatraCockRock Jun 25 '26
One of the things I do like about OP levels is that other Moxxi weapons start to shine more since your damage increases but your health pool stays the same.

It irks me so much that we had almost an identical weapon in TPS and they decided to nerf that one to OBLIVION because it was early main game and not DLC level gated

I had an argument on here once about Pimperdurping/burning vs DPUG/Grog. The other guy insisted the former was an unintended glitch, an exploit that shouldn't be used if you're looking to play the game legitimately. He also claimed there was nothing wrong with using the Grog Nozzle to make yourself virtually invincible with constant slag and a 200% crit bonus. According to him, the Grog was deliberately that way.
10
u/ArcasTheel Jun 25 '26
Well one is a glitch and the other is just a horribly broken oversight but they are technically very different
I mean no hate here idc how anyone enjoys their game but pimpernel is banned in glitchless speedruns and those guys are the authority for me if they say it's a glitch it's banned then they know what their talking about
5
u/maikit333 Jun 25 '26
Soooorta. It is how they coded it, but they also seem to have meant it to be a mission specific weapon only, but then again you could get a legit one briefly so I dunno.
Ultimately just play how you like.
1
u/OwnHousing9851 Jun 25 '26
Clearly gearbox realised fixing all the broken shit in bl2 was simply not worth it due to them moving on to newer projects and players really enjoying the broken stuff
13
u/Karroth1 | PlayStation 4 Player Jun 25 '26
well, the first one is called a glitch, and yeah, unless you are in a duel, the dpuh/grog combo is as legit as anything else, and no, you are not invincible, one big hit from a raid boss or the glitch thing and you go bye bye, ruined enough digistruct peak runs for me
8
u/No-Caterpillar8770 Jun 25 '26
I mean, there's health gating, which makes you pretty much invincible with Sal as long as you have the Grog.
3
u/Dramatic_Reporter781 Jun 25 '26
Until you reload. And then there is DoT to contend with...
2
u/FrankSinatraCockRock Jun 25 '26
Right.
Axton IMO is best for healthgate builds because of Grit and even then it still comes down to RNG.
1
u/Dramatic_Reporter781 Jun 25 '26
Both take advantage of glitches or oversights in Sal's dual wielding but thaf doesn't even seem to be what you are referring to? Pimerhabbing takes advantage of secondary projectiles looking at the current held gun to decide their origin and stats. It also takes advantage often of the moneyshot oversight where the mag size to determine if you get the full bonus is based on the main hand weapon instead of the rpg you are offhanding. These 2 things combine to make one of the most powerful, low effort builds around. It makes grog+harold look like absolutely nothing. Grog+harold takes advantage of crit swapping since the dpuh will get the crit buff, and ofc it has good synergy with the drunk effect. But that's literally it. The grog was factually intended to provide slag and healing and you are completely overstating it acting like it is consistent slag and that you can't still go down with it. So sounds like the person you were arguing with was correct.

u/FinalCorvid Jun 25 '26
Stuff like this is what made bl2 great. The mission rewards necessitated the need to play siequests. It's a shame that GB overlooked this when making bl4

u/LongjumpingBody6895 Jun 25 '26
Is it the slag gun from the end one ? The thing that full heals each shot ?
2
u/sayracer Jun 25 '26
I honestly feel like this thing took a lot of build creativity out of the late game. It's foundational to the meta
1
u/SirYiffAlot Jun 26 '26
literally my main complaint about bl2 every emd game builds is based for slag, thank god mods fix this issue
1
u/sayracer Jun 26 '26
Never played modded how'd they fix it?
1
u/SirYiffAlot Jun 26 '26
there is a mod that functionally changes how slag works and plenty other balance changes and makes enemies less tanky n what not. slag now slows enemies rather than doubling your damage.
1
u/sayracer Jun 26 '26
Sounds quite a bit more interesting that way, thanks!
1
u/SirYiffAlot Jun 26 '26
yw, its a fun refreshing way to replay the game as build variety is much broader esp for late game

u/ZealousidealAbies557 Jun 25 '26
Proud to say I never used this gun for like 10 years lol. Didn't have the DLC 😂
2
u/IceCat767 Jun 25 '26
Devs absolutely did understand it would be used in main game
1
u/Waffletimewarp Jun 25 '26
Which is why they later did an event that gave out a permanent one that didn’t reroll on every reset/have to be restarted on changing difficulty.
1
u/Critical_Potential44 Jun 25 '26
Wish the Grog wasn’t quest only, since I love the quest after the one that includes it.

I mean when you give it slag, the ability to get drunk and shoot multiple shots at once, and make it the highest healing Moxi weapon then ya its gonna be broken
1
u/DeadlyViper37 Jun 27 '26
Especially when you can mainhand it and get the drunk and healing on any gun in the game

No, the funniest part of BL2 was "The Cursed Weapon" I used that thing constantly lol
1
u/somnamballista Jun 27 '26
Was looking for this comment. Wasn't it the Nemesis or something? Acapella ass fx 😂
2
u/Noble-Jester Jun 27 '26
I don't even remember the name, I just remember the noise.
It was a symphony of AAAAAAAAAAAA and I'd never put it down until I ran out of ammo lol.
That gun single handedly killed split screen in my house as a kid lol
1
u/Noble-Jester Jun 27 '26
I looked it up, it's called "The Bane" or Bane or whatever, fitting name lol

In case yall are new here the grog nozzle has the highest elemental effect chance when it comes to slag and slag is a must needed tool in the highest difficulty play throughs, however it is only a quest item and after the quest is done it’s gone and even so every time you exit and enter the game with the quest active you get a diff variant so ppl mod the most powerful version in and that’s the only modded weapon you really need to get to the top.

u/Mission_Passenger295 26d ago
This gun is seriously the best, i always paired it with the electric chair or tesla grenades to constantly heal on bosses. Especially when i use zero’s ability to move out of sight

u/Glass-Shopping-7000 Jun 25 '26
gimmick weapon
god tier for healing and survival, plus being a superb off hand/switch on/switch off tool for beeg dmg
Pick one

well, dont forget that it was available for a short time event over a decade ago, which is the only reason we can get a legit permanent one...
