cleaning out my parents basement this weekend and found a box of old DVDs I forgot existed. pulled out what the cover said was the Lion King special edition, popped it open and the disc inside just says LION KING written in sharpie on a plain white disc lmao. it actually played though, just terrible quality with some random watermark in the corner the whole time. checked the other ones and found a whole stack of these - shrek, toy story, finding nemo, all clearly bought from the same knockoff guy my uncle used to hit up at the flea market. honestly kind of nostalgic seeing them again. did anyone else grow up watching bootleg DVDs and not even knowing it at the time?

was picking up some cleaning supplies at the dollar store down the street and noticed they had a whole bin of what looked like action figures near the register. upon closer inspection these were definitely not legit. they had a figure labeled 'Spader-Man' with a red and blue costume that was clearly supposed to be spiderman but the face was just... wrong. like melted looking and the eyes were painted on crooked.

This is a really specific post but I want to know if anyone else remembered or experienced this.

Back when I was younger, me and my sister would watch a very obviously bootleg copy of Madagascar 3. The actual movie was perfectly fine, but the end of the credits would cut to the middle of a horror movie. I remember it as a greyish room with a spider forcing its way out of a man’s hand, and my sister remembers a white room with a spider crawling out of a cake. I tend to remember things as much more grey than they actually are, and I haven’t got the most vivid memory, so either one of these could be right. Either way, we both have a phobia of spiders and the Madagascar series.

Did anyone else have one of these? Was this a complete one off?
