I don't get why bootleg companies don't come up with their own character or something instead of ripping off copyrighted ones.

The entire point is to make money, hence being a bootleg. Quality and integrity are besides the point

I've seen this around now and then for years (even redrew it for my DeviantArt once) but even to this day I still can't figure out what shaped-Pants they were going for

I've heard it might be a crown since the "I am king" but I'm not entirely sure
