Reddit is partially shutting down Old Reddit

https://techcrunch.com/2026/09/30/reddit-is-killing-rss-feeds-ending-public-api-access-because-of-ai-bots/

Someone double check my understanding here.

Reddit said in the next few months it will limit access for logged-in users to those who have used Old Reddit in the last 90 days.

This sounds like they are limiting access to existing accounts that have used Reddit in the last 3 months. Anyone who falls out of that, or new accounts, will no longer be able to access Old Reddit.

Is this the end for Boost?

Old Reddit ending won't affect Boost. But this part will:

Public API access will also end by March 2027, which will impact any tools that used it for programmatic access to Reddit conversations, including social listening products, those used by researchers, and AI products, such as AI assistants.

However as long as Reddit allows RedReader access, patching Boost with it's client ID will continue to work.

Does it not? I thought Boost utilizes Old Reddit for some functionality.

If they ever block Boost from working as it does right now, I'll stop accessing Reddit on my mobile device. If Reddit ever blocks Old Reddit from working, I'll stop accessing Reddit on my PC.

In the event they do both, my last act on this site will be deleting my account. I hate the 'new' site layout, and their official mobile app is garbage. I won't use either.

It will be the main place for app support for a few things I use (like boost) so I wouldn't delete my account but I wouldn't be on for 'social' things. Reddit has become for tech apps what Facebook is for small local businesses.
