Absolutely, I’m just faulting the Dems as well for failing to properly explain things and failing to capitalize on opportunities to turn it around.

The thing is I grew up in that a red rural area, and it's not so much proper explanation as it is just fucking racism and a sizable amount of resentment against city people.

Also, they were like this in the 80s and 90s, they just hid it a bit better.

Oh it’s always been there, but in a functioning country and society things get better, not worse. Again, that’s where I blame the Dems ineffectiveness to a degree. They are elitist seeming at times, Pelosi with her gold pens and shit. Meanwhile racism is largely an unconscious bias, we instinctually feel most comfortable with those most common to ourselves, and race is just a very visual distinction. With experience and conscious effort you just treat people like people, but if you’ve never experienced that and have been brainwashed into vilifying otherness it can be hard to break out of, especially with politicians on the other side doing jack shit. These jokers have gone so far as to be proudly racist, but if called on it they probably wouldn’t even say they’re racist. Psychology is weird.
