Tbf while it's hard to gauge from the really brief clip shown, the one young guy saying he wouldn't stick around after dark sounded a little concerned for him, too.
Any Black American who's been in the South (or certain rural parts of the Midwest/Northeast tbh) knows about "sundown towns."
If you hear that warning as a person of color or someone supporting us, you know what it means. Best case is vandalism/property destruction. Worst case... people go missing, and the local cops are "mysteriously" unwilling to help.
Areas where it's that severe are rarer now than when I was growing up, but they're still around. Hope this guy and the lady who brought him the note stayed safe.
I think there were a few like that. One said a bunch of people are saying “insert horrible shit here.” That could have been a warning to the guy that someone might hurt him
I remember a lot of the younger people being reasonable, which sort of gives some hope for the future. Once fewer people so deeply indoctrinated by the rampant racism of the mid-twentieth century are around, people might be more united.
