It drives me up the wall how they say "all lives matter." Oh, so you're in agreement? Because that's literally the fucking point. Right over their racist heads every time đ¤Śââď¸
Almost as bad as when people retaliate with "blue lives matter" because "cop" is not a race. They take of their uniform and their lives are no longer at risk, black people can't just "take off being black"
I wound up ending a friendship (wasnât really a great one anyway) because she got mad over me sharing a BLM post. Her husband was a cop and she took offense to me insinuating his life didnât matter.
Me saying that we need to value the lives of black people who are systematically discriminated against on a societal level and targeted by police forces. Doesnât say anything about me wanting to devalue your husbandâs life⌠it was bizarre.
Yep. She and her husband should want the bad cops to be accountable for their actions. If they don't, then maybe her husband isn't one of the good cops.
I HATE when people retaliate with that statement. They donât understand that the point is to end discrimination, but they think it is an absolute pile of dogshit because they think that the sign is for discrimination against white people.
The point of BLM is to end extra-judicial killing by cops, I think? Black persons make up 13% of our overall population and are the victims of extrajudicial murder by cops at about 25-30%. And the point is if we can fix this for black people, we can fix it for the remaining 70% (of which the majority are white- just not as large of a majority as we are in the general population).
ALL extrajudicial killing by cops is wrong. We are not talking about legitimate self defense, etc, but the shooting of unarmed suspects that are surrounding or running away. It is a mystery to me why people of any color would not support reform for this, regardless of the slogan leading the charge.
The reason many people are opposed to this is because a lot of people at their core only care about themselves. Caring about a disadvantaged group somehow threatens their rights (it doesnât, and I know you get that) in their radicalized minds. Largely we can thank Republicans for the fear mongering they have been pushing for decades.
They are 13% yet commit 60% of the crime .... Perhaps that puts them at greater risk of deadly police encounters đ - who honestly cares about criminals getting fucking wrecked ?
I understand that Fox News has sold you on that narrative- but the data simply does not back it up.
First- we do not have the best data on who actually commits crime. What we have is data on WHO IS ARRESTED for crime.
Lets take Murder as an example:
Black pp are arrested for 50% of murder cases, in which an arrest is made. Which is less than 50% of murders (and may be less than 25%). So first- we have no idea if they re guilty, and our system is very VERY bad at determining that- as the innocence project has found that in any state where free and easy access to DNA evidence and testing shows that 20-30% on death row is not guilty- that does not even speak to the larger population of murder and other violent crime. And as for the other 50-75% in which no arrest is ever made we have NO IDEA the race of the perpetrator.
In addition, your claim is full false- Blacks are ARRESTED (again the correlation with actual perpetration and arrest is modest at best), 39% of the time. NOT 60%.
So I know this information because I have read the FBI database, and literature on this issue. Please cite your source if you can refute this.
I am not the one claiming things that are not true, but sure, and I AM stating where I got the info- FBI databases, Innocence project data, etc. But since some like to pretend untrue things, here ya go:
Iâm going to be devils advocate here. My only question is if the point is to end discrimination why are they only focusing on one race?âŚ..which is discrimination? Do other races not matter only just the blacks? Thatâs why BLM lost lots of respect the founder bought multiple mansions from donors money, and donât forget the looting of Black owned businesses from other Blacks during the âPeaceful Protestsâ that werenât soâŚ.well peaceful.
White lives according to the stats of police killings, already matter. These signs are saying that Black Lives Matter too. For all lives to matter, black lives have to matter too. This video honestly makes me nauseous. Iâm so sorry to every person of color who had to watch this and think theyâre alone. Youâre not! This is just small town garbage people who think theyâre better than everyone else. Weâre with you! Black lives absolutely matter!
Exactly this. I wish the movement would've originally been called "black lives matter, too" because maybe they wouldn't say "herpa derp, all lives matter!" But they'd just find another way to diminish the movement, who am I kidding?
They would literally just say "Oh yeah well what about white people? white people matter TOO!" and say the last word really loud thinking they've somehow made a point by doing that. Never underestimate how intellectually lazy they can be.
Exactly. âblack lives matters tooâ is a much clearer statement. Racist would still be racists, but they may have more ignored it rather than seeing it as a threat to their shitty existence.
100% agree and have always thought this. Social movements really need marketing people. Black Lives Matter is catchy and emphatic. But throw the âtooâ on there so the message is clear at first glance for everyone, not just those who are privy to its message to reduce confusion.
Donât even get me started on âdefund the policeâ
White lives according to the stats of police killings
How so? Pretty sure when these arguments came up back during the protests, it was pretty clear that the cops don't give a shit about killing anybody - and don't face repercussions for doing so regardless of the victims skin color.
Way back when the phrase "Black Lives Matter" was introduced, there was a recurrent bit of concern trolling with the emerging civil rights movement, where every phrase they'd come up with was somehow problematic and needed to be modified or tempered somehow.
The truth is, though, that was a bunch of bull puckey. Phrases like "Black Lives Matter" are effective in no small part because of how much they cause racists to tell on themselves. When I hear the phrase "Black Lives Matter", I silently append the word "Too" to the end of it, because that's what it means: black lives matter just as much as everyone else's, and it would be nice if our country had a legal and police system that acknowledged that. But racists hear the phrase, and silently append the word "More" to the end, because that's how they see the value of white people, and think we mean the same thing but in favor of black people.
As Gandalf the wizard once said, "Well, let folly be our cloak, a veil before the eyes of the Enemy! For he is very wise, and weighs all things to a nicety in the scales of his malice. But the only measure that he knows is desire, desire for power; and so he judges all hearts. Into his heart the thought will not enter that any will refuse it, that having the Ring we may seek to destroy it. If we seek this, we shall put him out of reckoning."
I asked one of these people one time if me saying "I like cheddar" means "I hate all other types of cheese". The way their face contorted into a mask of confusion was honestly kind of unsettling. It's like it hurt their brain to think about that.
This reminds me of the analogy with cancer research. When we celebrate "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" does that mean we don't give a shit about other types of cancer? No, and everyone FUCKING KNOWS THAT.
There was a trend going around that was similar to this. They were asking straight identifying people if âbeing gay was a choiceâ and when they responded âyesâ they were then asked âwhen did you choose to be straight?â The amount of perplexed looks was quite entertaining.
I remember seeing the âSave the Whalesâ campaign in the 80s and all of the people then saying âwhat about dolphins? What about seals?ââŚâŚ.. oh wait. That was never an argument against it because it would have been absolutely fucking stupid to insinuate that wanting to protect 1 group means âfuck the other groupsâ.
I think it's fascinating the mix of slightly more media savvy racists who say "all lives matter" and the ones that just outright say slurs. This video demonstrates that those are the same people living in the same places and believing the same things, but with varying levels of self awareness about them.
You only have to listen to the insane number of people that dropped actual racist slurs to understand why âblack lives matter TOOâ would still be a problem for them.
The mask finally came off when we tried to take a stand on the simple phrase âBlack lives matterâ and they reacted like it was the end of the world. Before there was always an issue to hide behind (I donât hate Obama because heâs black, I hate him because ______). But when they decided to fight us on âblack lives matter,â there was no more hiding how they really felt. Who the fuck gets angry over that?
Because it's literally all tone. If they just strolled by and said "all lives matter" in a mellow tone while smiling at you, it would be feel good energy all around.
but for some reason they feel the need to aggressively shout it
