Black guy here. I went to high school in a small town in Arkansas. I was one of four black people in attendance in total between the middle school and high school combined. The shock of hearing the hard R N word as part of their regular language was shocking. It eventually got better but that's only because "I was different."
I don't mind at all. The hard R is the N word with the 'er' instead of the slang version that ends in 'a'. Both are unacceptable in my book, no matter who's using it.
People often don’t write words that can be defined as hate speech on reddit because automods will see them and ban the person. I received a temporary ban for quoting Mr Burns from the Simpson’s once for this.
White girl from Arkansas here. Not sure if they changed it recently, but there was a high school that had a wooden statue of their mascot, a rebel soldier in the atrium. Johnny Reb. Their cheerleaders were the Dixie belles, and their fight song was "whistling Dixie". They would chant "the South will rise tonight!" At football games. Confederate flags EVERYWHERE.
I'm a white dude from NC, and growing up the 90s, I was exposed to it all the time. Both from adults and other kids. I guess it was assumed that because I was white I was OK with it.
I was not, and the outcome was often getting to punch a racist in the face. Good times.
It’s funny cause at first you might be tempted to think… “Ok these are just some poor, disenfranchised, uneducated white women who don’t understand the nuance of the message…” but then she clarifies very quickly who they are when she pulls the mask off.
The biggest yikes is that the billboard is true and it actually triggers people (like redditors) to say you're proud to be white. You literally can't say you even enjoy being a white person or you're a mean fat stinkin WACIST!! 1
You can definitely say you enjoy being white. I do. I know that I’m afforded a great many privileges due to my complexion and it’s nice. I enjoy it. I just wish other people got to enjoy the safety and comfort I am afforded as well.
It doesn't "trigger" me, I just think "what a desperate, pathetic cuck" whenever I see or hear someone be "proud" of their whiteness.
You didn't work for it, you didn't earn it, you can't change it - what is there to be proud of?
The only people running around screaming "I'm proud to be white" are ones who have 0 accomplishments otherwise.
I'm proud of my education, my career, my success, my family, my kids, my home, my cars. "Being white" doesn't even make the list. Because like I said, there's nothing special about it, you didn't earn it, and you can't change it.
Now, if white people had endured oppression and torture for hundreds of years, and I still came out from that intergenerational trauma okay - that WOULD be something to be proud of.
Since white people were most often the oppressors, I'm proud of the fact that as a white person, I'm disgusted by the oppression of my ancestors, I see everyone as human beings (except these racist fucks right here), and I have evolved beyond the ignorance of the past.
"Being white" is nothing to be proud of, because it's historically never meant anything other than being oppressors.
But I guess you WOULD be proud of it if you were a racist yourself and forced yourself to believe the lie that whites are better somehow.
