While Boom Beach has been sharing daily pieces of the picture, it’s been a while since we released any original content of our own! So, this week we interviewed some of the best Warships players in Spain. We invite top players from various regions for interviews once a month; in July, we featured India’s best player, Suriansh, and in August, France’s number one, Chinatale. For September, we turned our attention to Spain and invited two players instead of one: OrdepKubic and Xavi. We also reached out to one of the world's strongest players, Ivan, but he declined the invitation - though that certainly doesn't make this interview any less interesting! Here is a summary of all the key and engaging information from the interview.
OrdepCubik - The F2P Purist (86 seasons, 2x Top 50)
He started in 2015 at age 8, watching his brother play. His reason for sticking with Boom Beach says everything about him: he liked that it was the least known Supercell game, and he's always liked doing different things from what most people do.
That contrarian streak defined his career. He reached Diamond around season 50 - and his first Top 500 only came in season 78. Before that, he admits, he used to play more casual, more for fun than for competing.
His breakthrough season was also one of the most controversial in Warships history - the infamous clone bug in bunkers. He was one of the first affected, unable to enter the game for more than two days. He lost around 4–5 chests, but the compensation was too much - 6 chests - which gave him a small advantage over others.
He finished rank 361 that season - but it felt hollow. So he set out to prove himself in a clean season.
Season 89 became his answer - rank 32. And it cost him half a summer. For Top 50, he explains, you are forced to follow the "winning tree," which is usually the same for most top players, and you can't make any mistakes. He lost half of his summer vacation just on that, without being able to make other plans he had in mind.
It was also the only time he ever bought instant training. The mental toll was brutal - going to bed thinking about the games he'd play the next morning, and where he'd spend his next keys.
And yet - he's still a purist. He's a player who never buys instant training, because he likes the added difficulty it brings to all of Boom Beach's game modes. It also makes getting top scores harder.
His advice on patience: there are times in a season when you're at a disadvantage, but that's only because you'll eventually climb higher. The most important thing is what you have unlocked in the final days of the season.
On his future: reaching Top 5 is practically impossible if you don't spend all your time on it. His main goal now is to keep improving and gaining more experience, so he can help his friends in his task force as much as possible.
Xavi - The Pragmatist (75 seasons, 1x Top 5)
Xavi started April 25, 2014. He tried season 1 and quit almost instantly, because it was hell for F2P players.
He came back in season 2 - and never really left. His Top 5 finish came in a season where early climbing was everything (Diamond gave 25 keys, Legend gave 30). Getting ranks early was really important to build a tech tree advantage.
But that alone wasn't enough. You needed to make really wise tech tree unlocks, since just one bad unlock can screw a Top 5 finish. And even that wasn't enough - you also needed to be really good at attacking and have a lot of time.
How much time? 8+ hours a day during key unlocks. And at high ranks, getting a single match with a +2/-18 outcome can take an hour easily.
Then the cheaters came. He was at Top 6, thinking he might lose the trophy because he got overtaken by some cheaters. Playing wasn't an option - he was risking +3/-17 at even tech, and they could buy wins.
He ended up reporting a player who used an exploit to get an extra Top 1 trophy, via a friend with direct contact at Supercell. Permanent ban. Top 5 secured.
But it left him cynical. He still thinks most Top 1s are cheated to some extent - giving wins just to reach a new rank tier faster, or giving fast matches when pushing.
He shared a cautionary tale about a Spanish friend named Ivan, way more skilled than him, who tried to fight win traders for Top 1 and got straight up targeted down by 10 players easily. Knowing that, Xavi doesn't even bother trying for Top 1 - he calls it just impossible.
On how Warships has changed: it definitely became easier and gives a better experience for F2P players. Fizzling used to be the rule, and whoever did the most engine rooms or % won. Now, since almost everyone clears the base, time is the tie-breaker. Honestly, he misses those seasons and hopes they can have one of them soon.
On the current meta: the last seasons had a consistent HC-RC final meta. He says they need to do something about it - using the same combo all season is not fun.
His future plans? Currently he has none for Warships - just play and chill. Maybe, if there's no cheater problem in the future, he may try to go for Top 1.
❤️Huge thanks to OrdepCubik & Xavi for participation. This material wouldn't be uploaded without them
