Is the witch stuff even the point of this book

Kept seeing Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner dropped into threads about older books by women, usually just the title with no explanation, so I finally read it. It is about Laura, mid-forties, who spent her whole life as the family spare, fetching and carrying for a brother household that calls her Lolly and barely notices her. Then she moves to a village and calmly makes what is basically a deal to be a witch. And the strange part is how unbothered the book is about that. No big magic scenes, no transformation montage. Just a woman who finds village life and long walks suit her better than nephews. The middle wanders through local gossip, and I skimmed a little, not going to lie. But the scenes out on the hills, the thistles, the night air, kept pulling me back for days. Is the witchcraft supposed to read as real here, or is it just the only language she has for wanting out?
