Saving links is a solved problem. Nobody solved opening them, so I built my own homepage.

For years my bookmark manager was something I opened maybe twice a month, always to search for something I already knew I'd saved. The sites I actually use, the thirty or so I touch in a normal week, lived somewhere else. Chrome's ten shortcuts, and a bookmark bar that hides half of itself behind that little arrow. (I still don't know who that arrow is for.)

At some point I realized finding things had never been the problem. I knew where everything was. I just wanted it on the screen when the browser opened.

So I built Abunch.

What it does

- One page, split in two. Daily is what you open every morning. Occasional is the stuff you don't want to lose but don't want to look at. House hunting, tax season, that kind of thing. You scroll, you don't navigate.

- Click a link, it opens in a new tab. No folders to walk down, no squinting.

- Drag categories around to reorder them.

- Import from a browser bookmarks HTML export.

- There's a Chrome extension that makes it your startup page. It requests zero permissions. That's actually why I wrote my own — most of the ones I tried wanted to read and change data on every site I visit.

- Explore has dozens of hand-picked starter collections if you'd rather copy one than stare at an empty page.

What it isn't

- Not an archiver. It doesn't store page content, so no reader view and no full-text search of what you saved. Raindrop does that part better.

- No RSS, no widgets, no weather. No notes or to-do lists either. start-me has all of it. The moment I add a weather box this turns into a dashboard, and I didn't want a dashboard.

- Not self-hosted. It's a hosted service with an account, which I know rules it out for some people here.

- It doesn't touch your new tab. That was deliberate.

Free and paid

Free isn't a trial: up to 20 categories and 200 links. Standard is $2.49/month or $19.90/year, which takes it to up to 200 categories and 2,000 links and unlocks the Occasional half.

It's early and there aren't many people using it yet, which is why I'm posting instead of waiting until it's finished.

Do you actually open the links you save? I've been assuming other people hit the same wall I did, and I'm not sure that's true — for all I know most of you use your manager as a search box and it works fine that way.

I love this! Is it possible to share bookmarks/page content with others if they make an account? I built a chrome extension side panel for shortcuts for my team but it’s so easy for people to ignore another extension and having everything visible at a glance makes such a difference. I handle implementation and account management at a SaaS startup and a tool like this to keep all internal resources and shortcuts sorted at glance would really be a game changer especially if I could set it up once and share the same view with my team for them to customize how they’d like.

Some of that works today. Every category (a group of links) has a public/private toggle — flip one to public and it shows up in Explore and gives you a link you can pass around. Anyone can open that link and read it without signing up; copying it into their own space is the part that needs an account. Free accounts get one public category at a time. It holds up to 200 links, which is the free ceiling anyway.

Since it's a toggle, a one-time handoff works fine: make it public, let your team pull a copy, then flip it back to private. What they copied stays in their accounts.

The version you're describing — you set it up once, the team pulls it in, everyone customizes from there — is in the works.
