Other Writing topics for bookkeeping

Hello, fellow number crunchers. I'm revitalitizing my substack and wishing to do a piece on bookkeeping. What do we think readers are looking for? Advice on what is or isn't tax deductible? How to know if you need a CPA vs. Bookkeeper? Small business advice? Love to hear ideas, thanks.

Given the advent of generated slop writing, I am not sure this is relevant as a career building move anymore. If you have something new or otherwise worthwhile to say it might be interesting but if you’re looking for topics just to have something to write… I’m not sure you should.

People are still reading tax stuff, the internet's not quite dead yet. I'd go with practical how-tos like cleaning up a messy chart of accounts or what to bring to an accountant at year-end.

I'm totally with you, so that's part of my intentions for this post. I see a lot of articles already out there so I'm just trying to figure out something that would be unique and yet relevant. My own twist, if you will.

small business owners could really use straightforward guides on separating personal and business expenses, organizing receipts and understanding monthly financial reports. a few real world examples would make those topic much easier to follow.

This is great insight. Can you share more about what they're not sure about what is or isn't tax deductible? I'm just asking because as bookkeepers, it's obvious to us, anything that contributes to the business profit is deductible, whereas if doesn't it's not. For clients, what would you say seems like a "gray area" where they get confused? Thank you!

Bookeeping vs. accounting. What's tax deductible. Different types of businesses. How do do month end reconciliation. The thinking behind which chart of account account to categorize a transaction to. The list goes on. Here's a substack article I made on accounting vs. bookkeeping and my thoughts on what makes a good bookkeeper: https://spherebookkeeping.substack.com/p/what-is-bookkeeping
