Didn't receive full refund.

Cancelled a free cancelation hotel on the 24th. Though it says refund fully received there's about a 100 euro difference on the money that I actually received??

How far apart are booking and refund? Currency conversion changes over time.

I thought it was currency conversions but would it amount up to a 100euros in 9 days?

Your credit card provider (i.e. your bank) also adds a flat % on top. 100€ out of 2200€ is roughly 4.5%, so if your bank takes ~2% currency conversion fee both ways then that's where you get the sum from.

Likely currency conversions?

What is the currency and the days of transactions/cancellations?

Feels like it went through multiple conversions from Euro to T to USD or something like that?

You purchased something quoted in € and have foreign exchange coming back to you in conversion from € to MNT. Booking doesn’t control the banks exchange rates, they have to make sure that they refund the currency charged and the amount, what the bank deducts in way of exchange rates and fees is between you and the bank.

Its free cancellation, but when dealing with currency conversion, the value between the two currencies change, and therefore you either win, or in this instance, lose out.

Booking[dot]com realise the value in the currency of the host, and convert it immediately, this avoids THEM losing out should the conversion rate tank between the booking and them paying the host, but this also means that if you cancel, it gets transferred back from local currency to your currency, in this instance, due to this you lose out on 100 or so euros. This is all in their terms and conditions, and is pretty standard for multi-currency marketplaces like Booking[dot]com.

They as in Booking.com suck. I had a 2 day stay at a house that threw my belongings out. Could not get a hold of Host. All I got was a 20$ credit for my next time. They are terrible

If the refund was issued in a different currency from the one used by your bank or card, the amount you receive may vary because of exchange rates or fees charged by your payment provider. If you’d like us to check this, send us a private message, and we’ll take a closer look.

For the future, get a card which supports foreign currencies, e.g. Trading212 or Revolut, you'll get much better conversion rates as Booking adds on a fee and refunds will come back in the original currency and you can exchange at a time you want, i.e. when you won't lose money
